Reconciliation Week

Family Faith Night

Father's Day evening plans

National Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week was celebrated at St John's with our FIRE carrier leaders and other leaders moving through classrooms to talk about reconciliation and aboriginal culture. Our aboriginal students presented their St John's kangaroo skin and spoke about which country/land they originate from.

We are hugely grateful that Michael (father of one of our students) and Isaac also yarned with the students from years 3-6.  Michael and Isaac shared their friendship journey and then Isaac let us feel the music of the didgeridoo (yidaki) in its traditional form and more contemporary beating boxing!!

Students participated in art activities which included drawing messages of hope and reconciliation on our 'message' sticks.

FIRE carrier students also explored the three core values of the FIRE carrier program: Spirituality, Journey and Cultural Awareness.  Spirituality is represented by the campfire.  Students painted their own campfire and then added leaves to represent the wind of the Holy Spirit in celebration of Pentecost this weekend.  We are always celebrating connections between our faith and cultures within the school.

What's next?  NAIDOC week, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day (annual walk from Frank Street Reserve) and a visit by comedian, dancer and story teller Sean Choolburra from Far North Queensland.

Family Faith Night

What a beautiful night of relationship building and exploration of the source and summit of the Catholic Faith, Eucharist!

Some of the year 4s and their parents attended our Family Faith night last week.  Together we explored the connection of the Passover meal and the Eucharistic meal and the importance of how we give thanks.  We explored the BIG concept of TRANSUBSTANTIATION (yes, it's a thing!) and made it into something we could all understand.   Please keep our First Holy Communicants in your prayers as they journey to receive the sacrament on Sunday 22nd June at 10a.m.  We would love for you to come along to support our students.

The St John's Legion of Mary came to visit the communicants to let them know they would be in their prayers and also to gift each student with Immaculate medal, a Rosary book and prayer card to guide them on their faith journey.  Thank you to Jacinta and Kate for representing the parish and sharing these gifts and wisdom with our students.

Fathers Day 2025

I just wanted to share that we will be having a guest speaker come to our Fathers Day evening this year.  Our school has been working with OneLove Australia this year and our 3-6 students have all attended their workshop.  Our staff have also completed workshops with them.   Jamal Elsheikh will host the evening and will be bringing a sports star from the AFL, A League or NBA to support him deliver a message of kindness through the use of a toolkit to use whenconfronted by racism.
