Wow, Semester 1 is drawing to a close, and what an incredible journey it's been! Looking at all the fantastic work samples and student data, it's wonderful to see just how much our students have achieved. They've grown, learned, and excelled in so many ways!

Over the coming weeks we will be finalising reports and preparing for our upcoming Learning Conferences. These conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect in celebrating your child's learning journey.

We're eagerly anticipating a brilliant day of athleticism and team spirit at our Athletics Carnival this Wednesday. Let's cross our fingers for sunshine and a whole lot of cheering!

Promoting an Inclusive Environment

Highton Primary School is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment where racism is not tolerated. Racism harms students’ mental health, learning and sense of belonging. We celebrate the diversity of cultures, ethnicities and faiths of all our students. It is up to all of us at Highton Primary School to make our school a place that is free of racism and where everyone feels respected and can learn in a safe and inclusive environment. If your child witnesses or experiences racism or religious discrimination at school, please immediately inform your child’s class teacher or school leadership.

New Powers to Help Keep Students Safe

There are important changes being implemented to enhance student safety. At Highton Primary School, we are committed to ensuring our students feel safe in the school environment and are concerned for the wellbeing of all our students.

As communicated earlier this week on Compass, from Term 3 onwards, Victorian school principals will have expanded authority to suspend or expel students for serious misbehaviour occurring outside of school hours or online, if it poses a risk to fellow students and staff. This change aligns Victoria with NSW and South Australia and addresses concerns about harmful behaviour that extends beyond the school gate.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll stated, "In Victoria, community safety comes first. These strengthened powers send a clear message that harmful behaviour outside of school or online has consequences". These measures ensure that harmful behaviour, regardless of where it occurs, does not disrupt the safe and supportive environment every student deserves.
