On Tuesday, our Year 11 students had the privilege of attending an insightful presentation by Paul Dillon, a highly respected author, educator, and social commentator. With over 25 years of experience in the field, Paul is renowned for his passionate commitment to keeping young people safe.
His presentation focused on the topic of drugs and alcohol, delivering an engaging and informative session that resonated strongly with students. Emphasising the principles of harm minimisation, Paul provided practical advice on how to stay safe and make informed decisions, especially in potentially dangerous situations.
Paul Dillon also hosts a highly recommended podcast, The Real Deal on Drugs, which continues the conversation around youth safety, substance use, and informed choices.
There has been a large number of students requesting early leave after Period 4 on Thursdays. I can not emphasise enough the importance that sport plays in a student's school curriculum. Sport is part of the mandatory requirements defined by the NSW Department of Education. It is important for our young adults to participate in some form of physical activity. Engaging in regular physical activity helps students develop teamwork and physical growth and also promotes positive physical health. As year 11 is an important time in our student’s academic years, students also have an opportunity to complete 2 hours of unbroken study. Therefore, if students are constantly leaving early on a Thursday they are not allowing themselves the opportunity to either further their studies or engage in physical activity which can enhance their mental and physical well-being.
If your child can not participate in Thursday sport due to injury or other valid reasons they will complete study here at the College. If, however there is a valid reason for a student to go home they must present a signed note from a parent or guardian. Please note that students who are constantly leaving early on Thursdays, this pattern will be monitored.
