Book Week
In Week 6 we celebrated Book Week as part of Literacy and Numeracy Week.
We were extremely lucky to have two authors Will Kostakis and Rawah Arja visit the Secondary students. Will was highly entertaining and engaging and spoke to the students about his path to securing his first publishing deal – while he was studying for the HSC! Rawah did some engaging creative writing activities that had the students thinking outside the box.
The annual Book Parade was a wonderful success under the creative direction of our Junior School Teacher Librarian, Mrs Hannah Holmes. The costumes of both students and staff were magnificent. The Junior School also enjoyed a drama performance of the book ‘Frank’s Red Hat’.
Our inaugural Edible Book Festival saw many creative cakes. Congratulations to our winners:
- Junior School (Kindergarten – Year 4) – ‘Misery Guts’ by Cleo (J2) and Maggie (J4)
- Junior School (Years 5 and 6) – winner ‘Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas’ by Lachlan (G8) and Abigail (J6) and an honourable mention for ‘Harry Potter’ by Cassidy (J6) and Ernest(P2)
- Secondary School – ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ by Hannah, Ruby, Kiara and Lily (C9).
- Library Staff choice – ‘Possum Magic’ by Charlotte (J4)
We are absolutely thrilled to have raised over $800 for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Two of a Kind - Spring Holiday Reading Activity
TPHS Library invites parents of students in Years 7-10 to participate in 'Two of a kind – a Spring holiday reading activity'.
What is ‘Two of a Kind’?
Each Parent/Carer and student will:
- Engage in shared holiday reading
- Receive a copy of the same book – the title, author and genre will remain a mystery until it comes home and you and your child unwrap it together
- Read the book and share your thoughts and opinions – a mini book club
Why is reading important?
Reading with your child:
- Teaches them important lessons about the world, behaviour and feelings
- Models that reading is a lifelong passion, not something that is limited to the school years
- Creates special moments with children
If you would like to participate, please register via this linkbefore September 14th. Books will be sent home with your child in Week 10 and should be returned at the start of Term 4.
