St Fidelis' Reflection Day
On Monday, the staff of St. Fidelis took the time and opportunity to engage in a reflection day at the Mercy Hub in Carlton. The purpose of the day was for staff to reflect and to continue learning about Mercy Charism and the works of the Mercy nuns in the 21st century.
Angela Scarafilo facilitated the day. Angela is the coordinator of Young Mercy Links Victoria. Young Mercy Links is an alternative Mercy pathway for young adults passionate about social and environmental justice. The group provides members with a platform to live out their mercy values and volunteer in the community. Angela is very passionate about the Mercy charism and ensuring Catherine McAuley’s legacy continues into the future.
The day began with finding out and reconnecting with the works of Catherine McAuley and her work with the Mercy nuns. Catherine McAuley opened a school to help the poor in Baggot Street, Dublin, Ireland. She and her companions constructed a school, visited the sick, provided childcare, sheltered the homeless and organised training for unemployed young women. On 12th December 1831, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy.
I am a child of God drawing competition.
I Am a Child of God is a new album of Sacrament and worship songs for children by Maria Forde. St. Fidelis Primary School has a strong connection with Maria Forde and she has invited a few catholic schools to take part in this competition. The children from Years 1-4 will take part in this competition. The children are invited to draw pictures that pick up the theme 'I am a child of God.’ If your image is selected it will be included on the album, and the child will receive a framed copy of their drawing, the child’s name will be featured in the album's credits, and the child will receive a copy of the album.
