MERCY-BEING THE FACE OF GOD’S LOVE TO EVERYONE WE MEET
Dear Parents and Carers,
On Monday, the staff attended the Mercy Hub in Nicholson Street Fitzroy. The Professional Learning Day was a day for us to reconnect with the Charism of the Mercy Sisters, the founders of our school, to learn a little more about Sr Catherine McAuley's mission (founder of the Mercy Order) and to listen to the works of Mercy in the 21st century.
Angela, the coordinator for Young Mercy Links, facilitated our day with input, personal reflection and dialogue. Personally, I have a lifetime connection with the Mercy Sisters having attended Catholic Primary, Secondary and Mercy Teachers College. Personally, Monday was a day of reflection and connection with who I am as a Catholic and reflect on the work that we can do to support our students and teachers with their faith and to live a life like Sr Catherine McAuley.
To all our dads and Father figures we wish you a very happy day on Sunday with your loved ones. A reminder we have a special Father's Day prayer and assembly this Friday morning and a Father's Day Breakfast.
Last week St Fidelis donated a truckload of unwanted furniture left over from our refurbishment in 2020/2022.
The Katalyst Foundation is a charity that was established to create sustainable change in communities, primarily in Fiji, assisting villagers with better access to education, health care and the ability to earn an income. The Katalyst Foundation is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Across the areas of Education, Health, Social welfare and infrastructure, their initiatives are designed to empower people and bring about long-lasting change. They aim to equip communities with the resources and skills to become self-sufficient.
Over 30% of people in Fiji are currently living in poverty in underdeveloped regions. The Katalyst Foundation (Katalyst) focuses much of its work on these remote, underprivileged communities of Vanua Levu. For more information please visit katalystfoundation.org or visit our socials @katalystfoundation
The Katalyst Foundation does wonderful work in Fiji for children's education and I look forward to working with Liz Zamanis-Robinson in the future in any way we support their Foundation and the works for the children in Fiji.
Dear Manuela,
On behalf of the Katalyst Foundation and Kookai family, I would like to express our enormous gratitude to you and the school community of St. Fidelis Primary School for your generous donation of school furniture and equipment this week.
The schools we work with are eagerly awaiting new furniture across the Bua Province in Vanua Levu. As soon as I have some images of the distribution to share with you from Fiji, I’ll send them to you.
Thank you for kindly supporting our work.
With much appreciation,
Liz Zamanis-Robinson

It is with great excitement that Stage 2 of our STEM INNOVATION / RESOURCE CENTRE WILL BE REFURBISHED NEXT WEEK!
Anthony Brazel (Alfie's dad in Year 4), from Brazel & Haley Architecture, has been kind enough to work with me to design Stage Two of the amazing learning space.
Stage One was also designed by Anthony and opened last year (2022) after COVID. A huge thank you to Anthony for being so generous with his time, discussions, advice, designs and coordination with different trades to make this happen.
This STEM INNOVATION /RESOURCE CENTRE would not have been possible without all the wonderful fundraising events held by the Parents and Friends and all the support of the families with these events over the past two years.
As mentioned in previous newsletters all the fundraising goes directly back to the children. We will have an official opening of this amazing space in Term 4.
Next Thursday night, the students who participate in this amazing instrumental music program will perform a recital for their families and friends. The students will play their instruments, sing songs and perform to an audience, many of them for the first time.
We offer this program as an extracurricular program at St. Fidelis for families who wish their child to learn an instrument. Since last year, the program has grown to 38 students who participate in weekly lessons. I'm looking forward to such a wonderful night.
In 2023, our school will participate in Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). MACSSIS is an annual process whereby schools listen to the thoughts and feelings students, families and staff have, about how their school can improve. These surveys help inform the ongoing improvement of schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
One of the main goals of the family survey is to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. Our school believes it is important for families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.
The survey will be emailed to all families this week. It will be appreciated if you complete it by Friday, September 13th.
