The past few weeks have been full of exciting events! The following are just a few of the amazing days we had. During Book week we were very lucky to have an illustration workshop with the famous Dean Rankin. We learnt how to create comic drawings and how to turn stick figures into detailed characters. Here are some of the phenomenal artworks we have created!
Book Week
During book week, we got to dress up as a book character and even had a whole school parade in the hall where everyone could show off their amazing costumes. Students mostly ran, danced or skipped around with their class to the song their teacher had picked. There were so many cool costumes Such as the White Rabbit from Alice in wonderland, Medusa, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter, Miss Trunchbull & Thelma The Unicorn and everyone had a blast!
Later in the week, the seniors were lucky enough to participate in an illustration workshop with the famous Dean Rankine. Rankine is most well-known for his comics in The Simpsons and Futurama. We learnt how to create comic drawings and how to turn stick figures into detailed characters.

Andrew Chinn Workshop
Last Tuesday, we were lucky enough to have the talented singer Andrew Chinn come to St John’s to work with the entire school. We sang, laughed, and danced.
While Andrew Chinn was at our school he told us lots of funny stories as we had to shimmy and dance our way around the hall. It was lots of fun because we sang some of Andrew’s very own songs that he had been sharing with other schools around the world. After lunch everyone headed to the Church to see Andrew sing his songs to the whole school. We thank Andrew for coming to our school and giving us a fun and joyous time as we hope to see you in a few years time. Thank you, Andrew Chinn.

Sport
Last Wednesday, a selection of Grade 4, 5 and 6 students walked to Ballam Park to compete in the Field Events. The students all tried their best and did an amazing job at representing St John’s. Most of the St John’s student’s got ribbons which is an amazing achievement. Everyone had a fantastic time running, throwing and jumping. If any of the St John’s students got 1st or 2nd they would move onto the next round, which is division! Even if they didn’t make it to the next round, they proudly participated in the field events!

Science
In science, the 5/6s have been learning about mould and how it is formed. Mould is formed by reproductive spores, which can survive for long periods of time without dying. For mould to grow, it needs moisture, exposure and air. It can form on many different types of food like bread, which the 5/6s tasted white, wholemeal and pane di casa bread to fill out a table. They also investigated mouldy bread a week later, and drew a detailed drawing of the food.
