Year 6 News

New Current of Inquiry

This week Year 6 have started a new unit of inquiry called “Who We Are”, we are learning to sort and find images related to a country. We have each picked a country to research, and have started to create our questions and wonderings about people, places and culture.

Year 6 Exhibition

The highlight from our Exhibition was definitely being with our mates and having a great time while working really hard. We also all love footy and we care about all AFL players, no matter what skin colour they have or what they look like. Talking to all the parents was so different compared to the younger students which was amazing. Overall, we couldn’t even decide on one highlight because of how great it was!!!!

Charlie, Liam, Angus and Nick

Our groups highlight was working as a team when we were crafting our posters. We also liked explaining our information to the people who came to our stand. We really enjoyed the exhibition, it was a great experience.

Parker, Lachy, Henry D and Kian

Our highlights of the exhibition were talking to the preps and giving information to the other kids. We enjoyed teaching them about our prototype which we enjoyed making.

Josh M, Flynn B, Nate and Zach D

uqOur highlight of the exhibition was teaching and communicating to the kids, teachers and parents. It was fun telling them how it works, how we solved it and what impacts it has on the world and people.

Violet, Ella D and Deanna

Our biggest highlight was having lots of people at most times around our stand and being able to speak with each person. We liked doing the demonstration to explain our product to our customers.

Ollie, Toby, Josh, James, Jasper

Our group put in so much effort and hard work and we also worked collaboratively on the exhibition. We all had so much fun working as a team and decorating our stand with fairy lights.

Georgia D, Harper, Edelyn and Riley

We all enjoyed exhibition because we got to showcase the work that we had created. We enjoyed the first afternoon of exhibition when the parents came a bit more than when the school came through because they were actually interested in what we had to say and what we had created. We had a lot of fun creating/putting together our stand even though there were quite a few disagreements about what was going where and what our set up would look like. All in all we enjoyed our final exhibition of primary school.

Scarlett D, Mia K, Pippa and Maddie

We had heaps of fun preparing for exhibition, we all agreed it’s been our favourite inquiry project ever. Our overall highlight was definitely teaching kids and adults about what we’d been working on.

Lucy, Ella, Mia and Ada

The biggest highlight during the exhibition for our group was seeing all our hard work come together and sharing it with others. It was so fun watching all the kids learn about our product and see them enjoying the process.

Maya, Micah and Freya

Exhibition was super fun. We faced some at the very start, when some teammates were confused and we were all scrambling for some ideas, but the rest of it went really smoothly. On the other hand, highlights from the two days were when parents came to our stall and were REALLY interested in our website, model and Kahoot quiz. On the student day we had the preppies and older year groups come in and we had loads of people queuing at our stall to have a go with our interactive model! Overall, the whole process was really fun and we all enjoyed it.

Lily, Scarlett R, Bella and Stella.

In the exhibition our favourite thing was when we got to talk to the adults because they were very interested.

Lennox, Ben, Henry J, Jack and Timmy

Our highlight of the exhibition was getting to teach kids, teachers, parents and preps about our world problem, how it works, how we solved it and what impacts it has on people and animals, and also the impact it has on the world. We also liked getting to make and build our prop so people could see how and what it looked like.

Makarlie, Georgia B and Tahlia

A couple of weeks ago the Year 6’s put on a successful exhibition. On Wednesday 26th of July we had our opening night where every group gave a brief speech about our stalls to a small audience, the following day we held the Exhibition for the whole school to visit.

-Harper & Riley

A highlight of the exhibition for all of us was explaining what our problem was and how our solution worked to the adults. Another highlight was showing how our model moved and worked to the students. We also made a website for the adults and teachers.

Gregory, Dmitrii, Niall and Liam C

The exhibition was very exciting and fun for all of us but our main highlight was explaining it to the younger year levels. We had a wide range of audiences which made it super enjoyable to talk to most of them. There was a couple of problems along the way, like how our lights broke, but we pushed through and finished the task.

Dakotah, Gab, Alannah & Sophie

Last week was exhibition. Our highlights were: talking to the parents, explaining things to the preps and showing off the model. We were really happy with the outcome of our presentation.

Baxter, Sam, Brandon and Bailey

Exhibition was a great experience! We were so happy with our final prototype. We loved how the little kids would interact with our prototype and be interested in our idea. We also had a lot of great feedback from the other teachers in the school.

Mitch, Kai, Liam N and Daniel P

Our experience from the exhibition process was a great way for our group to come closer as friends because we always communicated our ideas together. It was a very fun time and an opportunity to work together to create an invention and a solution to our real-world problem, food packaging. We all learned a lot from this time and collaborated very well together. During the exhibition time when we displayed and shared our work, we all worked together to inform our audience about our topic. We really enjoyed this time and think our exhibition exceeded more than we thought.

Freddie, Kruz, Finn H and Daniel S

Our groups highlight was when we got to teach the preps and year ones all about our app and how they got to search up their favourite food on our fake laptop, they were laughing about it and most of them searched up ice-cream. We also loved seeing everyone's shocked faces when they saw the outcome of one of our games.

Eliza, Mackenzie, Amber and Averie

Our group highlights from exhibition were when we got to demonstrate our thinking and ideas to various age groups, and how we impressed our audience, especially the younger kids. It was great fun watching the kids laugh about the quiz. We were very proud of the outcome of the exhibition.

Lila, Issy, Claudia, Annabelle and Sasha

Our group highlight in the preparation was when we had gotten our idea and just had to work through the tasks. Our highlight at the exhibition was having to explain to different age groups and impressing them. We also loved showing and explaining our prototype and our problem.

Max, Piotr, Henry K and Sebastian

The highlight for our group was explaining our solution and prototype to different year levels and adults. It was fun because we got to teach people information about our solution. Overall, the exhibition has been the highlight of year 6.    Zach, Hobbie, Harry & Harrison

After adding up the votes from BNPS staff and the community members who visited the Exhibition, we are pleased to announce the winners in 3 different categories:

The winner of the ‘Most Creative Real-World Solution’ goes to the group who came up with an answer to the problem of food waste around the world. Their innovation was designed to prolong the life of food, by creating a powder sachet that will keep food fresher longer, prior to it becoming off. Congratulations to Lila, Issy, Annabelle, Claudia and Sasha. This group also won the ‘Most Engaging and Effective Communicators’ award!

The group who demonstrated that they were the ‘Most Knowledgeable’ came up with an idea to reduce mental health issues that arise from dancers suffering from injuries. They designed a massage pad that combines soothing a therapeutic rose quartz and vibrations to reduce muscle pain. Well done to Freya, Micah and Maya.

A very big congratulations to all Year 6 students for their participation in the hugely successful 2023 PYP Exhibition
