Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

We Want Our Parents To Tell Us What They Think!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/carers think of our school. The Parent/Carer Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents/carers has been selected to participate in this year’s survey.

The Parent/Carer Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Last year we used the survey results to review programs and policies at BNPS.

Free Eye Examination For All Students

The school is pleased to announce that the Student Eyecare Program will be running at the school in Term 4.

An optometrist will be onsite during school hours to provide students with a free comprehensive eye examination that is covered through Medicare Australia.

1 in 6 students have eye conditions that go undetected. This is due to the high level of visual demand on their eyes from books, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Every student will receive a full report about their eye health and a prescription will be provided if glasses are required. The prescription can be taken to any optical store to get the glasses made. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity.  To register, please click on the following link: https://forms.gle/a2ewmiGYcFLcpHcZ6

Life Education

All of our students have now attended The Life Education Program. This program is not to be confused with the Respectful Relationships program.

The Life Education program encompasses the topics of:

Prep and Year 1 - ‘Harold’s Friendships’. In this module, students learnt to recognise the importance of relationships and will gain skills to seek help in a variety of situations and will also practice strategies to manage their feelings and emotions.

Year 2 - ‘Growing Good Friends’. This module highlighted the role that positive relationships play in their health and wellbeing.

Year 3 - ‘Friends and Feelings’. This module focused on being a good friend. The concepts of asking consent, having tricky conversations with friends, and feelings associated with big changes were also explored.

Year 4 - ‘The Inside Story’. In this module students travelled inside the body to visit the body systems. Harold reported his findings along the way to help students learn how food is processed, the role of nutrients in our bodies, and how the heart and lungs oxygenate blood.

Year 5 - ‘On the Case’. This module focused on decisions related to smoking, students developed strategies to reduce harms related to smoking.

Year 6 - ‘Decisions’. This module offered a choice of content on legal drugs or legal and illegal drugs. Students explored the decision-making process and improved decision-making skills by looking at choices, consequences, responsibility, facts, and influences.

Student Led Conferences

Congratulations to our students from Prep to Year 6 who managed their Student Led Conferences last week.  The feedback from the many parents who attended these conferences has been very positive as they experienced their child describing their learning and knowledge.
