Japanese Victoria (JLTAV) Speech Contest

On Sunday, August 27th, parents escorted their children to a Japanese Speech Contest.  They were accompanied by Mr. Jacky Wong, our Languages Coach and staff from the Cranbourne Campus. Luke Mu, Fiona Dubey, Naomi Mu, and Minh Tran attended the event and embraced the opportunity to participate enthusiastically.  The competition showcased a remarkably high standard, with contestants hailing from various schools across Victoria. The students tackled diverse topics in Japanese, including global warming, extra terrestrial visits to Earth, and even presented pun jokes.  Among the numerous competing groups, Fiona and Naomi, participating in the Year 7-8 Pair Division, secured the third position. The judges highly praised their fluent speech, which depicted a role-play between a dog and a cat in search of their missing friend.  Luke and Minh also took part in the Year 9-10 Pair Division. Although they did not clinch an award, their performance, a dialogue featuring a crafty thief and a police officer, showcased immense creativity and garnered hearty laughter from the audience.  Our pride swelled for the achievements of our students, and we extend our gratitude to their parents for dedicating their time to accompany them to the contest and provide support. We eagerly anticipate our students' continued excellence in the upcoming year.

Ace Your VCE Exams with Practice and Preparation

As Year 12’s embark on the final stretch of their high school journey, the looming VCE exams might seem like an overwhelming challenge. With the right approach and dedicated effort, students can conquer these exams and achieve the results they have been striving for. One of the most effective tools at students' disposal is to complete multiple practice exams over the next few weeks. Below are the numerous benefits of completing practice exams and provide valuable tips on how to study effectively.

The Power of Practice Exams

1. Familiarity Breeds Confidence: Practice exams give students the chance to get familiar with the exam format, question types, and time constraints. The more students expose themselves to the conditions of the actual exam, the more confident they'll become in tackling it head-on.

2. Identify Strengths and Weaknesses: Taking practice exams helps them identify the subjects and topics they excel in and those that require more attention. This insight allows students to allocate study time wisely and focus on areas that need improvement.

3. Fine-Tune Time Management: Completing practice exams under timed conditions trains students to manage time effectively during the real exam. They will learn how to distribute the time among different sections, preventing them from getting stuck on a single question.

4. Reduce Exam Anxiety: Familiarity and preparation are powerful antidotes to exam anxiety. Regular practice exams reduce the fear of the unknown, making the actual exam day feel less daunting.

5. Enhance Recall and Application: Practice exams help students to reinforce their memory by making them recall and apply what they've learned. This active retrieval strengthens their understanding and retention of information.

Reminder: All Year 12 VCE students will complete practice exams under exam conditions from Monday 2nd October - Friday 6th October.

Effective Study Strategies:

1.  Create a Study Timetable:Organise study sessions by creating a timetable that covers all subjects and topics. Prioritise subjects that need more attention and allocate specific timeslots for practice exams.

2. Understand Concepts:Don't just memorise; aim to understand the underlying concepts. When they understand the "why" behind the information, it is easier to apply the knowledge to different scenarios.

3. Practice Regularly: Consistency is key. Dedicate time each week to taking practice exams and reviewing performance. Use both official past papers from VCAA and additional practice resources.

4. Simulate Exam Conditions: When taking practice exams they should mimic exam conditions as closely as possible. Sit at a quiet desk, set a timer, and avoid distractions to recreate the pressure of the actual exam.

5. Review and Learn:After completing a practice exam, they should review the answers thoroughly, understand the mistakes and learn from them. This process is crucial for continuous improvement.

6. Utilise Feedback: Seek feedback from teachers on the practice exams. Their insights can provide valuable guidance on areas that need further development.

7. Stay Healthy: Remember to take care of the physical and mental well-being. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep contribute to better cognitive function and focus.

8. Stay Positive:Maintain a positive mindset throughout the examination preparation. Students need to believe in their abilities and remind themselves of their achievements along the way.  As students delve into their VCE studies, please keep in mind that practice exams are the key to the journey toward success. All students need to embrace the challenges, learn from the experiences, and never underestimate the power of preparation. With the right mindset and dedicated effort, all students have got what it takes to shine brightly in the VCE exams and beyond.
