Athletics news

On Monday, 28th August, St Anthony’s participated in the Noble Park District Athletics at Duncan Mackinnon Athletics Track, Murrumbeena. 38 students from years 3-6 represented the school in a series of track and field events against schools within the Noble Park district. These events included:

TRACK EVENTS

FIELD EVENTS

1500m

800m

100m

200m80m hurdles

4x100m relays

Discus

Shot Put

Long Jump

Triple Jump

High Jump

Throughout terms 2 and 3, students participated in a range of trials for each event and then once selected, trained for their respective events at least once a week. Their work ethic certainly paid off as each student showed great effort and determination in each event they competed in. The most pleasing aspect of the day was the terrific sportsmanship they showed towards both their teammates and their opponents, often congratulating each other for their efforts, as well as showing exemplary behaviour throughout the day. Their outstanding efforts resulted in one of the school’s highest finishes in recent years, finishing in 5th place overall!

A huge congratulations to the following students for their outstanding achievements:

We had ten students who placed in the top 2 positions of their respective events and as such, progressed to the Greater Dandenong Division Athletics which was held on Monday, 11th September at Casey Fields Athletics Centre. The group produced some fantastic results on the day with all ten students finishing in the top 4 positions of their events. These are some of the results of the day:

A big congratulations to Isaiah, Youhans, Brooke, Loi and Bernardus who all placed in the top 2 of their respective events and will now progress to the South Metropolitan Regional Athletics. To have five students progress this far is an incredible achievement and a testament for all the hard work they have put in. They are now only one event away from making it to the Victorian State Athletics carnival!

Our athletics squad deserves a huge congratulations for the way they represented the school in both carnivals. They displayed unwavering dedication and persistence in their trials, training sessions and on event day and should be extremely proud of everything they’ve achieved. After a year’s absence, we can’t wait for the return of our own House Athletics carnival in 2024!
