Our Amazing Bodies

Here on the Amazing Bodies page, our School Nurse Kiera Heasly shares an amazing fact about the human body.
Did You Know?
There are approximately 700 muscles in the human body. The largest muscle is the gluteus maximus, which is in your bottom.
There are three main types of muscle found in the human body:
Skeletal Muscle Function
Our skeletal muscles are the ones we think of when we hear the term ‘muscles’. They are attached to our bones and help our bodies move. Regular exercise helps us build these muscles and make them strong over time.
Smooth Muscle Function
Smooth muscles are found in the organs of our body, like the stomach, intestines and even your blood vessels. They work automatically to help move things through our bodies such as food through your digestive system, waste you eliminate in the toilet and blood through your veins and arteries. They also help you breathe, all without you having to think about it.
Cardiac Muscle Function
Cardiac muscle is only found in your heart. It is super strong and helps pump oxygen and nutrient rich blood out to feed all the muscles and organ systems in your body, so they work efficiently.
