Library Bags
This is a friendly reminder that students must bring a library bag to their library session each week. Library bags help keep our books clean and offer protection from rain and water bottle spillages. We are pleased to announce that our uniform supplier PWS now offer a navy drawstring library bag with the Essendon North Primary School logo for $18.95.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
Registrations for the 2025 Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge opened on Monday and the library is busy enrolling students who wish to participate - login details will be sent out asap.
The Reading Challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online before the closing date in September. Since the Challenge first began in 2005, more than 3 million students across Victoria have read nearly 50 million books! The Challenge is not a competition but an initiative to improve literacy skills and develop lifelong readers and learners.
Children from Foundation to Year Two are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their families. Children from Year Three to Year Six are challenged to read 15 books. There is an official reading list with over 12,000 age-appropriate titles, many of which are in the school library but books from home, a public library or e-books can also be read.
Please contact me via Compass or email if you wish to register your child. Registrations will close at the end of this term.
Having a sort out at home? The library gladly accepts donations of pre-loved, good quality children’s books suitable for ages 5-11.
Do you have library experience or a love of books? The library gladly welcomes any volunteers to help shelve books or cover our new books with contact (must a have a current Working with Children Check).
Please don’t hesitate to contact me through Compass or by email.
