Dots! Dots! Dots!
For the past few weeks, students in Years Two, Three and Four have been inquiring about famous artist, Yayoi Kusama - AKA, The Princess of Polka Dots.
Students have discovered that although Yayoi Kusama (aged 95!!!) makes lots of different types of art - paintings, sculptures, performances and installations - she has become known for the one thing they have in common, DOTS!
Students have viewed and discussed a wide range of her works and have used these works to inspire their own creations. Kusama loves creating artworks that have similar themes - she loves pumpkins and she loves mushrooms.
Kusama’s artworks are currently on display at the National Gallery of Victoria and some students (myself included) have enjoyed sharing their experiences at the gallery with their peers. Check out these great photos of Evie (4IW) with mum Emma enjoying the Kusama exhibition!
If you are interested in taking your family to the NGV to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition for yourselves, it is on until April 21st.
Below are are some of our works in progress - look out for our finished products!!!
