Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,

Another busy couple of weeks has just passed by with year 4 camp and the Athletics Carnival for the 3-6’s among the many activities taking place.

Year 4 Camp

It was wonderful to see all the Year 4 students having such a wonderful time last week at their overnight camp at Camp Adanac in the Yarra Ranges.  The children were beautifully behaved and respectful at all times.  A special thanks must go to the teachers who took the time out to go with the children and for the hours of preparation that each of them put into organising an event such as this.  We have such amazing staff here at Holy Trinity, who give so generously of themselves.  A big heartfelt thank you to each of you!

Please read on further in the newsletter to learn more about the amazing camp experience that our Year 4 students had.

Catholic Education Week

This week is Catholic Education Week, running from Sunday 16th March until Sunday 24th March. The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week is “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you” (Is 60:1). As part of Catholic Education week our year 6 leaders for the term will be going to St Patrick's Cathedral to join with other Catholic schools across the Archdiocese in celebrating mass together.  This is always a wonderful event.  The children will then join together to celebrate with a concert in Treasury Gardens showcasing a number of talented students across catholic schools in Melbourne. The MACS ‘Creative Art Exhibition’ is also a highlight of Catholic Education Week.  For tickets please access the link below if you are interested in attending.

“Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools” Initiative

Mental health exists on a continuum. It is influenced by many environmental, emotional, biological and social factors and can change regularly. This year Holy Trinity has been given some funding to roll out a statewide initiative with the aim to support the mental health of our students. Our funding is directed towards funding the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader who will action a variety of mental health initiatives and support staff to support the diverse mental health needs of our students. This work is of utmost importance and Holy Trinity is committed to building resilience and a positive sense of wellbeing for all our students.  Please find some information below from the Mental Health in Primary Schools website.

School Photos -

Our school photo day is scheduled for next Monday, 24 March.  Please wear your full school uniform, consisting of a polo shirt and shorts.  Please make sure your socks are white school socks.  Please see the flyer for more information regarding placing orders and sibling orders.

Traffic at pick up and drop off

People are still doing u-turns in front of the school.  The traffic is constantly monitored by the council and you are likely to be fined.  People are also choosing not to cross the road at the supervised crossing.  Can I please ask all families to please cross at the appropriate, designated crossing zones in order to model the correct behaviour for the children and to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Twilight Sports

Twilight Sports is scheduled to  be held on Thursday 27th March.  This event is a highlight of the school calendar and all students from Prep to 6 are encouraged to attend.  The students will compete in a range of fun, tabloid activities in their house teams.  Children are encouraged to dress in their team colours.

Twilight Sports will begin with a community BBQ and gathering from 4.30pm, with sporting events commencing at 5.15pm and concluding at 7.00pm.  The PA will be selling sausages in bread and veggie burgers as well as drinks.   We need about 20 volunteers to proceed with this fundraising event.  Please see the PA page of the Newsletter for more information regarding this event.

Using front gate

If your child/ren attend before school care, can you please make sure that you buzz the driveway gate and drive in to drop your child to before school care.  If you wish to park outside the gate, please still buzz in using the driveway gate.  Please do not use the small gate as this gate does not automatically close.  Thank you for your understanding.

School Tours

We are currently running School Tours for prospective families who may be interested in joining our community in the future.  If you know anyone who may be interested in having a tour of our school please direct them to our website to book in for a tour.  Word of mouth is so important.

Harmony Day and Hot Cross Buns

Harmony Day is celebrated in Australia on March 21st each year. It's a day to recognize the country's many cultures and Indigenous Australians. Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. While Harmony Day is officially this week, we will be celebrating it next Friday, 28 March as a whole school community with a collection of activities to celebrate cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The children can wear a ‘touch’ of orange to show their support or their cultural dress.  The PA will also be running our Hot Cross Bun morning tea on this day - please refer to the PA page in the Newsletter regarding how to order Hot Cross Buns.

Friendship Groups Behaviour Focus

Our current behaviour focus is “Playing By the Rules”.  The children focussed on the importance of following the rules and having empathy for others when playing games in their recent friendship groups on Friday afternoon.  The key to moving through the disappointment of people not following the rules is understanding. When we recognise that often people are not intentionally going out of their way to annoy, frustrate or upset us, it is a game changer. Being compassionate and having empathy for others and an understanding that we are all travelling different paths helps us to realise we don't have to be disappointed as much as we think we do.   Helping children to understand different perspectives and explicitly teaching children appropriate ways to respond to conflict is an important part of helping children to know the most appropriate way to respond.

SAC Meeting

The first School Advisory Council meeting for the year will be held in the staffroom @ 7pm tonight.
