Teaching and Learning

Term 1
This week has been planning week at Concord School, this is where teachers spend a day collaboratively planning with their colleagues for the term ahead. During this day, teachers look at student data and the Victorian Curriculum to plan engaging and sequenced learning activities. Teachers take students interests into their planning so they can optimise student motivation for learning. It is always a busy and successful week for students and staff!
School Events
Last week Concord had their Secondary Sports day, this was a positive day organised by our Bundoora sports team Riley & Rachael and supported by the Specialist leader Jess Mitchell. Students were proud of their achievements throughout the day with lots of ribbons pinned on their shirts.
Concord is a wonderful diverse community and last Friday we celebrated Harmony Day. Each section celebrated diversity in their classrooms and wore a touch of orange which symbolises social communication, meaningful conversations, freedom of ideas, and encouragement of mutual respect.
Secondary 11B has been busy out in the community participating in the Imagine Re-Evolution Program, which is based in Eltham. It aims to build strong communities by fostering intergenerational connections. Students collect materials that would otherwise be thrown on the scrap heap and re-purpose them into art, crafts, woodworking projects, and outdoor furniture. Secondary 11B has been excelling at the program during Term 1.
A particular highlight was when we learned how to hyrdo-dip using old nail polish and blank tiles. The students made some great abstract art while learning a fun and contemporary skill.
Curriculum Day
Thursday 24th April is one of our whole school curriculum days. No students attend school on this day. Staff will be working with Tracey Izzard looking at our school’s vision and values. This will tie into our School-wide Positive Behaviour Support and deepen our culture of learning.
Take care,
