Inside Classrooms

Cohort and Specialist Updates

Foundation:

The Foundation students are flying during our UFLi program that has started running every morning.

So far they have learnt a sound for the letters; a, i, f, m, n, p, s and t.  This work has enabled the students to begin to spell and read two and three letter words such as, map, pin, sit and tip.  Students have also been busy learning irregular words such as the, and, a and I.

During Maths students have explore counting collections to ten and practised writing the numerals that represent these collections.  Vocabulary such as more and less have been used to help compare these collections.  Fives frames and tens frames have helped students to organise their collections in order to count with one-to-one correspondence.

In our Knowledge Unit students are sharing ways to be a good friend and learning through literature such as "I walk with Vanessa" and "Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley"

Its been an amazing time of learning for our new students.

Year 1/2:

During our Inquiry Unit, students in Year 1 and 2 are beginning to create self-portraits as part of the ‘taking action’ stage of our inquiry of ‘Community’. We have explored why it is important to feel like we belong and how different communities make us feel. As part of developing and collating everyone’s self-portraits, students will be creating a community banner which will be on display at our ‘Inquiry Learning Celebration’ at the end of the term, on Wednesday 2nd April.

In Literacy, students have been exploring a range of texts that connect to our Inquiry learning about Communities. Through exploration of these texts students have identified character feelings using clues from the text such as pictures and writing on the page to support their thinking. They have also made connections to their own experiences and ideas and themes across the texts.

In Numeracy, students have been learning about graphs and collecting data through asking questions. This has given students the opportunity to develop and ask questions of their choice, identify appropriate categories that match their question and then move towards showing the data they have collected in a pictograph. Students have been building their understanding and fluency with two and three digit numbers through place value activities. They are exploring addition strategies and how these strategies can help us to find the total of a collection effectively. Students have participated in a number of hands on and open-ended activities, while working both individually and in small groups, with a focus on explaining our thinking about how we solved the problem.

Year 3/4:

Year 3/4 students have engaged in enriching learning experiences across key subjects. In geography, they explored Australia’s states, capitals, and climate zones through interactive activities. Literacy lessons focused on research, note-taking, and report writing, strengthening their skills in structuring and presenting information. In numeracy, students developed a strong grasp of place value, applying strategies like partitioning, regrouping, split, jump and compensation strategies to solve problems efficiently.

Year 5/6:

Celebrating Harmony Day with Our Buddies!

On Harmony Day, our Year 5/6 students celebrated inclusivity, respect and belonging by participating in a special activity with their younger buddies. This day was a wonderful opportunity to embrace our diverse school community and strengthen connections between students of all ages.

Together, the students engaged in a creative and collaborative activity that highlighted the importance of kindness, friendship and cultural appreciation.

We also had a fantastic time celebrating Harmony Day with our special picnic! Students, staff and families came together to enjoy a variety of delicious foods from around the world, sharing and appreciating the diverse cultures within our community.

                      Garden Together

Grade 3/4 are having a great time learning in the garden this term.

They have enjoyed learning to care for our new chickens, Which are a heritage breed known as bantam Australorps. A special highlight was finding the first eggs, as they have just started laying.

We have also been learning about seeds by  saving seeds from the garden, planting seeds and making seed packets to take home- keep an eye out for some coming home if your child is in 3/4.

Autumn is such a fruitful tubs in the garden! We have been harvesting and tasting  so many different veggies including corn,  cucumber,  tomato and zucchini. We even managed to grow some Watermelon and rockmelons, (these were the winners of last year's vote for most popular seed to plant) also peaches and Pears.

Remember that volunteers are always welcome in the garden- either to support students in class on Fridays or to help maintain the garden.  If you are interested to find out more please leave your name at the office.

Happy Gardening everyone!
