Grade 1/2 students have been learning about countries, people, and flags as part of their Term 1 topic. So far, they have studied the flags, country names, and nationalities of the first five countries: Australia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan—all in Chinese.
This week, students were able to form a complete sentence, saying, "I am Australian" (Wǒ shì Àodàlìyàrén), and I was incredibly proud to see how excited and accomplished they felt.
Starting next week, they will learn about another five countries, including their flags, names, and nationalities in Chinese. They will also expand their skills to talk about their own nationality and age, as well as their parents' nationality and age, enabling them to introduce themselves with more confidence.
