A reminder that our Foundation Open Classroom & Welcome Picnic is happening tonight! Thursday 27th February.
This week, our Foundation students explored the theme of identity and diversity through the wonderful book It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr. After reading the story together, we had a rich discussion about the ways we are all different while also sharing things that are the same with our classmates.
Inspired by Todd Parr’s bold and colourful illustrations, the students then created their own self-portraits, celebrating what makes them special. With bright colours, their artwork beautifully showcases our class community, where everyone is valued for who they are.
We are so proud of the way our Foundation students embraced this activity with creativity and kindness!
A Magical Day at the Movies!
On Tuesday, our students embarked on an exciting adventure as we caught the train to the Sun Theatre in Yarraville for a special screening of Magic Beach. The excitement was high as we set off on our journey, and the kids embraced the experience with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Magic Beach, based on the beloved book by Alison Lester, is a fan-favourite story that captures the beauty of imagination and the joy of adventure. Watching the book come to life on the big screen was a wonderful experience for our students, who were captivated by the film’s creativity and storytelling.
No trip to the movies would be complete without some tasty treats! The children enjoyed popcorn and juice as they settled in to watch the film, adding to the magic of the day. They were engaged throughout, inspired by the story’s ability to bring imagination to life in such a colourful and exciting way.
Beyond the fun and excitement, we were incredibly proud of how well our students represented NLPS within the community. They showed responsibility and respect throughout the journey, on public transport, and at the theatre, making it a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
It was a fantastic day filled with adventure, creativity, and plenty of smiles! Thank you to everyone who helped make this excursion possible - we loved sharing this special experience with our students.
In Year 3/4, we love to share with each other about our culture backgrounds and beliefs. This month we have been fortunate to have some children explain to their classes all about the month of Ramadan. We have learned that Ramadan is a time for Muslims worldwide to fast, pray, reflect, and treat family, friends and people in the community with kindness.
Throughout the month households get up early to eat breakfast before the sun rises. After the sunset prayer, Muslims gather in their homes or mosques to break their fast with a meal shared with friends and extended family.
The month ends with a celebration of Eid al-Fitr. We can’t wait to hear all about this very special celebration at the end of the month when children can further share their experiences.
