This year the theme for Catholic Education Week 2025 is
‘Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you'
(Is 60: 1)
which draws from the motto of the Holy Year, the Year of Jubilee,
and the Australian Catholic Youth Festival’s theme – ‘Pilgrims of Hope’
In 2025, Catholic Education Week will run from Sunday 16 March to Sunday 23 March. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne to celebrate their Catholic identity, the pivotal role they play within their local community and the strength of the sector.
Thank you to all the children receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and their families for attending the Reconciliation workshop. Engaging in this workshop is one way in which we can prepare our children as they continue with their faith journey.
Today our Reconciliation candidates had the opportunity to take part in a retreat day. Throughout the day the children engaged in various learning opportunities. We began the day with a short liturgy in the chapel followed by unpacking the meaning of Reconciliation and how as faith filled people we ask for God’s forgiveness. Throughout the day the children had the opportunity to reflect and acknowledge the poor choices that we have made and how God is always ready to forgive us.
The Reconciliation Celebration will take place on Thursday the 20th of March at 6.00pm at St Fidelis Church. We ask that you be seated by 5.50pm.
Gemma Piotti and Erica De Fazio are our Social Justice Leaders for 2025.
Last week, the girls began their journey as Social Justice Leaders by addressing the community of St Fidelis about Caritas Australia. Caritas Australia is a worldwide organisation. Caritas serves the mission of the Catholic Church to serve the poor and promote charity and justice throughout the world. The caritas theme for 2025 is “Unite against poverty”.
This year, as a school community, we will be raising funds to support this great charity. Last week every family received a money box. As a Catholic learning community we acknowledge that all donations are appreciated as they are used to help people in need. Join us this Lent to raise much needed funds for people living in poverty. Together, we can make a difference now, for all future generations.
All donations are greatly appreciated and go towards a very worthy cause.
As we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus we come together as a Catholic school community to acknowledge Jesus’ love for us. The children will engage in re-enacting “The Way of the Cross” which will take place on Friday the 4th April at 9.15am. We will begin in the Hawthorn Yard and make our way to the church.
We invite parents and carers to join us as we celebrate this important time of the Catholic Church.
God bless and have a great week.
Annette Gasbarro
Religious Education Leader.
