Region Swimming

The Eastern Metropolitan Region Swimming Championship were held on Friday 21 March at Aqualink in Ringwood.

I competed in the Eastern Metropolitan Primary Swimming Region Championship. I raced in the backstroke event, where I had the chance to compete against some of the best swimmers I’ve ever met. When I reached the other side and touched the wall, I felt a rush of excitement.

Looking around, I was hopeful about my time. However, when the results were announced, I found out that I didn’t win a medal. Even so, I was still very proud of my effort. I highly encourage students who didn’t try out for the trials this year to give it a go next year. It’s a fun and rewarding experience for everyone!

Liam (Year 5)

I was fortunate to participate in the Eastern Region Swimming event this year as I required a special invite. The time I swam at District luckily qualified me to swim in the breaststroke race. I swam really fast to finish first in my heat, and overall I placed fourth, which was a terrific achievement.

This is my third year competing at Region and it has been an awesome experience representing EHPS in the District, Division and Region swimming events. I would highly recommend other students to trial for next year.

Thank you to my Aunty for driving me and my Mum for coming to watch my race. Thanks to Mrs Cotterell and Ms Hocking for their support too.

Josh (Year 6)

AFL Clinics

All classes participated in an AFL clinic during PE lessons last week. The warmup games involved listening and reactions skills. They had lots of fun learning how to handball and kick while playing fun games. The senior classes showed their game sense skills playing a modified handball game.

Huge thanks to the following coaches for conducting the clinics:  Eddie, Will, Teagan, Angie, Chelsea and Samson. Also, thanks to Brett Mollison (Dad of Huxley from PH) for helping out with the sessions. Brett is co-ordinating the Ashwood AFL Auskick sessions on Essex Heights Reserve starting on 3rd May. Each child in Prep to Year 2 received a flyer to take home (copy of information below) if your child would like to participate.

House Cross Country

All Years 3 to 6 students will compete in their Houses in a cross country event on Thursday 3 April within the school grounds and the Essex Heights Reserve oval.

The House Cross Country event is a healthy, fun and active event that helps to ensure we send the right message about the benefits of physical activity and being active to our students while having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The main focus for this event is to encourage participation and teamwork.

Students in Year 3 will run one lap of the course (1km), the 9/10 year old age group will run two laps (2km), and 11 years and 12/13 years age groups will run three laps (3km). Age groups are determined by the student’s age on 31 December 2025.

Please note the following reminders for students:

  • Children are encouraged to wear their House colours or sports top with comfortable shorts/trackpants/black leggings and runners.
  • Asthmatics must carry their asthma puffers with them.
  • Children will need a named water bottle for after their races.

Family support is appreciated as we encourage all students to participate and get involved. Thanks to those families who have already offered to help marshal the track for the House Cross Country on Thursday. We require a few more people if you’re able to help and have a current Working with Children Check that you’ve presented at the Office to be recorded – CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER TO MARSHAL AT HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY

Qualifying students will represent EHPS at the Monash Heights District Cross Country event on Friday 9 May at Mirrabooka Reserve in Blackburn South. Nine children from each age group will qualify – boys and girls events in 9/10, 11, 12/13 age groups.
