P & C News

The P & C are a wonderful, approachable group of parents who work alongside the school. The P&C raise funds for facilities and equipment, are responsible for uniform choices and the meetings are a great place to hear about what's happening in the school. All our new families are warmly invited to join us.

MINUTES OF MEETING

MEETING OPENED:           7:05pm.

VOTE FOR PRESIDENT POSITION

  • Pravina Karan was nominated for P&C President by Sarah Marinovic. Nomination was seconded by Nicole L. Pravina accepted the nomination and was elected president. 

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:               

 

 Maintenance suggestions received from the community:

o Bailey parade gate closure (considerations for before and after school care, dance groups and PSSA training mornings).

o Resurfacing will be raised with Assets

 Continual vandalism of Bailey Pde gate – if you see anything please let us know. Contact the office. 

 Gate access: 12 months increase in the concern for student safety aligned to supervision, exposure to unknown persons onsite and the ability to access traffic.

o Students accessing the school site before 9:00am

o Bonds Rd pedestrian gate – access to traffic

o 3:00pm the number of community members in the playground including high school

students.

 

  In reviewing our school access and the health and safety of our students, as of the

beginning of Term 2 there will be some changes to gate access.

o Automated gates – Bonds Rd 9.00am – 9.40am and 3.20pm – 3.40pm. Parents, carers and high school students will be asked to remain outside

o Attunga Before & After School Care – The gates on Bailey Pde are open for students enrolled in Attunga Before and After School Care only before 9.00am.

o Support Unit parents and carers – Bailey Pde gate will be the only available pick up at 3:00pm with staff supervision.

o Early Collection – If you require to collect your child early from school, between

3.00pm – 3.20pm, please use Bonds Rd gate and press the buzzer to request your need for early access.

o Greenlands Ave and Bailey Pde Kinder gates –Mr Archie opening the gates at

8.55am and closed by our student leaders at 9.30am and reopened at 3.20pm by our student leaders and closed at 3.30pm by our staff.

o PSSA, Dance or other special events will need to discuss with their teacher the best meeting place and entry to the school in the mornings

If there are extenuating circumstances please contact the school principal for a meeting.

 

 

 Fancy hat parade is scheduled for K-2 on Wednesday in week 11 including participation with the preschool. 

 Anzac Day will be recognised in week 1, Term 2

 NAPLAN is completed and ran smoothly

 Evacuation drill will occur between now and the end of the term.

 Parent teacher interview will be booked online this year through the parent portal

 Year 6 Fundraising and Garden Project

 

o Last year, our Year 6 students worked hard to raise funds for their Year 6 formal and to give back to the school with a special gift. This year, the money raised will go towards revitalizing the Year 6 garden area.

 

o In the first week of the holidays, Mr. Kikilas and Archie will be coming in to remove the old grass and lay fresh turf. We are seeking volunteers to assist with this project and would greatly appreciate any parents or carers who can lend a hand during this time.

o Additionally, if any families have connections that could help reduce costs, we would love to hear from you. To complete the project, we will need to order:

 

 320 sqm of grass

 1 tonne of topsoil for leveling

 The hire of a turf cutter

 Various gardening tools and equipment

 

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

SECRETARY REPORT:                

 

  • School Disco – discussion regarding dates that would suit. Agreed on 28 November. This date works are year 6 camp and farewell dinner. Sarah to contact Footsteps to book date. 
  • Easter Raffle – 
    • flyers are printed and raffle tickets to be stapled on. 
    • Flyers to be set out by early next week.
    • Volunteers will be required. 
    • We have received some egg donations and hopefully will have a few more coming. If needed budget was approved last meeting to purchase additional eggs. 
    • Mrs Schafer will confirm what time the raffle will be held. 
    • Confirmed to be in the afternoon session 2.40pm under the A lower COLA

 

  • Mothers Day Stall – a small group has been put together to choose and purchase the gifts. 

 

GENERAL BUSINESS:                 

 

  • Mothers day morning tea – there was a discussion whether to hold a mothers day morning tea. We discussed possible times and date. It is difficult to find a time that would suit most parents and school opening times etc. It was decided not to hold a morning tea this year. 
  • BANK ACCOUNTS:            Outgoing treasurer, Jennifer Hearne, to be removed as signatory to Westpac bank account. Incoming president, Pravina Karan, and incoming treasurer, Sarosh Zaidi, to be added as signatories to the Westpac account. 
  • SQUARE READER:            Jennifer Hearne to be removed as authorised person for the square reader account. Sarosh Zaidi and Pravina Karan to be added as authorised persons for square reader account. 

 

  • Discussion of possibly doing an outdoor movie night fundraiser. Email to be sent seeking volunteers to form a committee. 

 

  • Question asked to Mrs Schafer about school approach to problems in group chats (e.g. on messenger) transitioning into school. Issue raised that students are in group chats and that problems/conflicts in those chats are then causing problems at school. Mrs Schafer confirmed that the school does take action where this impacts at school. Online safety is part of the curriculum. The school also has a visit from police organised to discuss online safety, including this type of issue, with stage 3 students. 
  • Question asked to Mrs Schafer about how many parent teacher interviews are held during the year. Mrs Schafer confirmed that there is one school wide parent teacher interview, which is held in term 1. After that parents are welcome to arrange meetings with the teacher during the year if needed.
