Maslow's hierarchy describes the basic needs that drive human behaviour. If your needs are met, you can become "Self-Actualised", or in a position of fullfillment in which you can work towards achieving all of your goals. In working with children, we look at the above pyramid, a version of Maslow's pyramid used in schools. What do you notice? What does that mean for children who experience significant trauma outside of school? Children whose parents struggle to make ends meet? Children whose sensory needs aren't being met?
There is so much involved for students to feel ready to learn after school drop off. What can you do to contribute to your students climbing higher on this pyramid?
