Student Leadership

Student Leadership

93 students from across Years 7 – 11 applied for positions as House Leaders, equating to almost 10% of the total school population. It is so heartening to have young people who are prepared to become fully involved in school life, assisting staff to make Nazareth College even greater!

On Monday, the first Student Leaders Meeting ran, a regular for lunchtimes on Day 1. It was great to see the Level Leaders introducing themselves to their fellow House Leaders, sharing their past experiences, interest area, and hopes for 2025. As well as looking at the Role Descriptions for House Leaders, much of the meeting was spent planning the Swimming Carnival. Houses were taught a new chant that was used to ramp up atmosphere at House Carnivals. Ms Kappas and Ms Spano demonstrated just how loud and competitive the chanting can be!

Years 7 & 12 Buddy Sessions

Over Fab Feb, the calendar found time for the Year 12 oldies to spend time getting to know the Year 7 newies! These sessions were a good time for a chat, and of course for some fun card games in house pastoral groups. There were competitions for the best Playdough House Mascot, pastoral colouring in, and mascot sketching. Prizes were distributed at the recent House Assemblies to the winning Year 7 students and their Year 12 buddies!

House Singing Competition

The Year 7s and 12s from each House joined forces (or voices) to sing a nominated hymn for the Cathedral Mass or a rendition of the school song. Three Houses selected the Nazareth Song, and hearing the 7s sing the line, “Nazareth is our school and we are here to belong”, was a heart-warming moment. The battle was really close, with Mannix House Years 7 & 12 winning a Pizza Lunch. So close was second place that a Donut Day has been awarded to Knox House Years 7s & 12s. These celebratory prizes will be organised by the Year 12 House Leaders in the coming weeks.

Great team building and House Spirit was witnessed on the day and we look forward to more opportunities to have houses compete against one another during the year.
