Cross Curriculum

Priorities

We are commited to embedding the cross curriculum priorities at our school.

The Western Australian Curriculum has been written to equip young Australians with the skills, knowledge and understanding that will enable them to engage effectively with and prosper in a globalised world. Accordingly, the Western Australian Curriculum must be both relevant to the lives of students and address the contemporary issues they face.

The curriculum gives special attention to three key priorities:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures
  • Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia
  • Sustainability

Sustainability

At Pioneer Village School, we teach and promote how to reduce waste and look after our environment each and every day. This year, different sustainability roles and responsibilities have been assigned to different year groups for completion each week. This enables or students to work together to embed good habits.

The Possums and Emus look after our school by litter picking with their buckets using the litter pickers which were donated to us last year by Bunnings Armadale.

The Kangaroos, Bilbies and Swans are in charge of the weekly paper and cardboard recycling. They empty the bins and give feedback to classes on how to improve.

The Numbats and Bobtails are encouraging our ‘Waste Free Wednesday’ initiative. Collecting each classes waste free scores weekly and giving out the upcycled trophy at the end of term.

The Wombats have our recycling hub which includes pens, plastic bread tags and household batteries. The pens are recycled at Officeworks and the bread tags head to a charity called Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs. Feel free to bring in items to place in the recycling hub.

We have received our WasteSorted accreditation for 2025 which means our school is recognised as a school which fosters positive waste attitudes and behaviours and integrates this into our curriculum.

The waste warriors at PVS are making the world a more sustainable place.
