Year 12 Students,
As we approach the final weeks of Term 1, it's important to finish of the term as strong as possible, while also looking after ourselves and those around us. Here are a few key reminders to hopefully help to keep you on track:
Assessment Reminders:
Many of you have now completed your first SACs for your subjects and are still preparing to sit several assessments before the term’s end. Be sure to double-check the due dates for any upcoming assignments or SACs and use your study periods wisely, as well as time at home to prepare for these. Time management is important, so use your study timetables that have been developed in form group to alleviate any last-minute stress.
Uniform expectations:
Some Year 12’s seem to have forgotten about the uniform expectations at Horsham College. Now that the weather is cooling off, students may wear a long sleeve white or navy long sleeve shirt. All shorts or pants must also be navy. No black! For more details, refer to Page 10 of your student diary.
Study Tips for Success:
Focus on consistency and quality over quantity. Rather than cramming all at once, try to break down your study sessions into smaller, more manageable chunks. Regular review of your study habits and timetable will help reinforce your understanding and improve retention.
VCE Special Examination Arrangements:
If students, because of illness or disability, are unable to complete their VCE examinations in the same way or under the same conditions as other students they can apply to sit their exams under special conditions. Special Examination Arrangements enable students to access the examination questions and communicate their responses in a timed examination. Students are eligible for Special Examination Arrangements if it can be demonstrated that their capacity to access the examination is impaired due to severe health impairment, significant physical disability, hearing impairment, vision impairment, learning disability or severe language disorder.
Some examples of where students have accessed Special Examination Arrangements in the past include when a student is a diabetic and would like to bring food, drink & medicine into their exams, when a student suffers from severe migraines and will need to sit their exams in a separate darkened room and have rest breaks or when a student has a disability that affects the speed at which they write and they will need more time to complete their exams.
Applications are submitted from the school and must be accompanied by recent supporting medical or other specialist reports. Some additional testing may be required. If students wish to apply for Special Examination Arrangements for 2025, they should speak with Mr Rigas as soon as possible.
Wellbeing Check-in:
It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with the demands of Year 12, so make sure you’re balancing your study with self-care. Take regular breaks, be active, eat well, stay hydrated, and get enough sleep. If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to a teacher, coordinator or member of wellbeing for a chat.
Goals for Term 2:
As we prepare for Term 2, take this opportunity to reflect on your academic goals. What’s working well for you? Where can you improve? Set achievable goals and use feedback from assessments to guide your study over the holidays.
Stay focused, stay positive, and keep up the great work!
Wishing you all the best in the final stretch of Term 1.
