Year 8 News

Gareth Hose & Kate Gardner, Year 8 Coordinators

Well, we blinked, the Labor Day long weekend was here, and now there are only two weeks of term one left! It’s certainly been a busy time for the Year 8 students.

Out and About:

Year 8 students have been enjoying a range of activities in PE/Health classes over the last few weeks. Most popular has been Outdoor Education students fishing on the Wimmera river. Students have been super organised, bringing their fishing rods and tackle boxes to school. As you can see, we’ve had several students successfully reel in their catch! Ruby H, Nate K and Ryder B all pictured here with their haul!

PE classes have been enjoying playing ultimate frisbee, practicing their skills on the ovals and outdoor basketball courts. Whilst students have really enjoyed themselves, unsuspecting teachers walking in the yard between lessons have had to take extra care!

In the Classroom:

Year 8 students have been busy in classes as always, with most subjects completing assessment tasks over recent weeks. Students have undertaken assessment in creative writing in English, and challenged themselves to master directed number problems in Maths. Science students have completed research on the elements (Elemental Explorers) and shown understanding of the movement of the sun and moon (Space Invaders). Humanities students have shown their creativity with designing a park for community use (Hello World) and written about daily life in Medieval Europe (Age of Expansion). Body detectives students have been lucky enough to be involved in dissections to apply their learning about the cardio-vascular system.

All assessment results can be accessed via the SEQTA app or website. If you require assistance to update your details or receive a username or login, please contact the admin office.

Interim reports will be released to parents before the end of tTerm 1. These give an overall view of students progress on assessment completed thus far, as well as an indication of their learning behaviors and habits measured against our college values of Care, Character, Collaboration and Commitment.

We congratulate the following students who have been selected as Year 8 representatives on Student representative Council (SRC) for 2025: Sam Creasey, Minha Rahman, Xavier Skurrie, Amelia Altmann, Raven Pywell, Ruby Hill, Chassidy Loresco, Matilda Hardy. We wish them all the best as they begin their roles!
