Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 5, Term 1

šŸ“šREADING

This week, we will continue to make links to our CBL Big Idea 'Connections' via our mentor text 'I Am Australian Too', written by Mem Fox. Students will continue to develop their fluency while reading aloud, be prompted to make connections between the text, themselves, other texts and the world around them.

Ā

Ā

At home you might like to listen to your child read aloud and prompt them to make connections between the text and themselves.Ā

Ā

āœļø WRITING

In Writing, we will be exploring narratives, with a particular emphasis on the key elements; sizzling start, characters, setting, conflict and resolution. Throughout, we will be highlighting the importance of using connectives to link sentences and ideas (i.e. next, finally, following this) and ensuring that their sentences make sense.

Ā

Ā

At home you might like to discuss with your child their favourite story/ies and what they like about it (i.e. the character makes me laugh, the author builds suspense, notice the interesting words on a page).Ā

Ā

āž•Ā MATHS

Ā

This week, students will continue their investigations into the place value of numbers up to and beyond hundreds of thousands. Students will have experiences with naming, renaming, rearranging and ordering numbers.Ā

Ā

At home you may like to notice big numbers in their environment and try to name them. What are the different ways we see numbers represented in our community (i.e. in words, digits, as objects)

Ā

🌱 CBL

This week, we will be exploring the Guiding Question 'How do we connect with others?' Students will participate in activities with the purpose of understanding the connections they currently have, and then working towards strengthening connections with friends in our Grade 3&4 community

Ā

At home, you might like to practice having conversations with your child, discussing sentence starters for positive conversations. For example, 'how was your day?', 'tell me three interesting things that have happened today?'.

Ā

🌿WELLBEING

Ā

Students will be participating in Respectful Relationship lessons based on personal and cultural strengths.Ā

In SWPBS our level focus is lining up safely and walking respectfully around the school between lessons.Ā

In Cyber Safety we will be empowering students to protect their online privacy and personal information that identifies them. Students will learn the skills required to create safer online environments.

Ā

Ā šŸŽ—ļøREMINDERS

Ā

-Please ensure your child brings their fully charged iPad to school every day.

-We would like students to have headphones at school in preparation for Grade Three Naplan and online spelling assessments.

Ā

End of day routine:

-The end of day bell is at 3:30pm for all students (there are no staggered departure times)

-Students are working towards developing independence in cleaning up their space before leaving the classroom. There is an expectation that all tables, lockers and the floor are clean and iPads are stored safely in their bags before leaving the classroom. We ensure that there is adequate time for this, starting clean up ten minutes before the bell.

-We are working towards developing end of day etiquette, encouraging children to say good afternoon to their peers and teacher before leaving the classroom in an orderly fashion.

-Students are expected to be picked up at Lantana Drive (near the oval) unless they have a younger sibling in Prep-Two.
