STEAM News

It has been a very busy week in the Steam room. Foundation students listened to a story titled, Ada Twist, Scientist and we then discussed what scientists do. They looked at safety goggles, magnifying glasses and glass beakers which are all in the room and they then created their own scientist using a range of materials.

Year 3 students learnt all about prosthetics and viewed a short video of a young boy's prosthetic leg being made and fitted for him at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. They were then challenged with the task of creating a prosthetic leg for Captain America who had lost his leg in a battle. Students had to then make sure his new prosthetic leg was a good length for his height and that it was durable as he likes to move around quite quickly.

Year 4 students undertook a design thinking challenge by making tiny homes out of only six index cards. They were not allowed to use any type of adhesive, so not glue or sticky tape. They had to think about different ways of folding and bending the card in order to make the house stand up. The design brief also included furniture for a child to use such as bunk beds. It was amazing to see what the students have created so far as this task will continue for a second week!
