Welcome Back to a New School Year!

We are delighted to welcome each and every one of you to another exciting year at Toorak Primary School. Whether you are a returning family or joining us for the first time, we are thrilled to have you as part of our school community.

As we begin this new academic year, we look forward to the opportunities, growth, and achievements ahead. Our dedicated teaching, learning and wellbeing team has worked diligently over the break to prepare an engaging Start-Up Program for all year levels. This program is designed to:

  • Provide students with a high-quality learning experience based on our teaching and learning model and evidence-based best practices.
  • Allow teachers to build strong relationships with their students during the first three weeks of school.
  • Establish consistent routines and expectations across all year levels, including specialist classes.

We are excited for a fantastic year ahead and look forward to working together to ensure every student has a positive and successful start to 2025!

At Toorak we prioritise learning and optimising every minute whilst students are at school.  As I wondered in and out of classrooms over the past week, students demonstrated their readiness to learn.

2025 School Priorities

Each year the school analyses the previous school year data and develops goals to meet the School Strategic Plan.  In 2025 we will be working towards the following goals…

Meet and Greet

On Wednesday 12 February you will have the opportunity to meet with your child/ren’s teacher between 12:30 and 4:30pm. The purpose of this meeting is for you to share information about your child to foster a collaborative partnership between home and school. This information provides valuable insights about your child's personality, learning style, and unique needs, enabling the teacher to tailor their approach, create a supportive environment, and enhance the overall educational experience for your child.  The meet and greet sessions will continue in the hybrid format of online or face to face.  Bookings are now open via compass and will close on Monday 10 Feb at 4pm.

School Attendance

Daily attendance and punctuality are crucial for academic success. Consistent school attendance ensures students don't miss essential lessons, fostering a continuous learning process, academically, socially and emotionally. Being on time cultivates discipline, responsibility, and a positive work ethic, preparing students for future commitments and contributing to a successful educational journey.  Our school day begins at 8:55am, this is a time to be at the class line ready to head into the classroom to set themselves up for the day of learning which begins promptly at 9:00am. Any student who arrives after 9:00am will be required to be signed in at the office by a parent or carer and take a late pass to class.  Beginning from Monday 10 February, students will not be able to sign in themselves, a parent must be present for late arrivals. A couple of minutes late each day may not seem much, however they will often miss the explicit teaching component of the lesson, then having to play catch up after arrival.

Do you need to communicate with the teacher?

There will be times when you may need to let the classroom teacher know something really important about your child and this open communication is highly appreciated, however the mornings at drop off is often not the best time.  At this time teachers are preparing to take the students into the classroom to begin the learning.  When teachers get caught up with parents it may mean that the children may be waiting longer to get into class or to start their lesson.  If you need to communicate urgently please send an email via compass prior to the start of the day or make a time to meet with them at the end of the school day.  Our teachers are available to meet with you on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon between 3:30 and 3:45pm and appointments are appreciated.  Teachers are involved in professional learning each Monday and Wednesday and will not be available on those afternoons.

If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to share your thoughts, please feel free to reach out. Open communication is essential for a successful partnership between home and school.
