PREP NEWS

Dear Families,
We have had a fantastic time in Prep, learning new skills and making new discoveries! Here’s a look at what we’ve been working on:
Literacy:This week, we met Cooper the Caterpillar to help us learn the /c/ sound and Izzy the Insect to help us learn the /i/ sound. We have been practising handwriting for these letters and listening carefully to how these sounds appear at the beginning of words. Can you find anything at home that starts with /c/ or /i/?
Writing:
We chose different pictures and had fun writing silly sentences to work on writing creatively. We also started our week drawing a picture of things we did on the weekend and writing what we did as well.
Maths:
We have been working on playing games fairly and practising being polite. We have played the game “Race to ten” with a partner and we shook hands and said “great game” or “better luck next time”, at the end of each game. We also practised waiting patiently while our friend had their turn of the game, before we rolled the dice for our turn.
Inquiry:
We have continued to learn about friendship and our school values. This week, we read When I Grow Up and discussed what we would like to be when we grow up and the school value ambition. We also made sock puppets and practised role playing the classroom rules that are important to keep us safe.
Homework:
We have sent home our second week of homework. A friendly reminder that homework is due back next Wednesday, along with library books. Each student has been given a school satchel to keep their library books and homework in. We will begin calling this our "satchel routine", with students returning them every Wednesday.
Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions!
Thank you for your support!
