The Maths Proficiencies
The mathematical proficiencies of reasoning, problem solving, understanding and fluency are closely intertwined, each one made stronger by the others. At Holy Rosary by embracing the proficiencies we are teaching our students to think and reason as they learn Mathematics, stretching and challenging them to pose and solve meaningful problems, prioritising sense-making, patience and understanding over memorising, being quick or simply getting ‘right answers’. Mathematics becomes more meaningful when the proficiencies are a focus of our teaching and learning.
