F/1

Our Foundation and Grade 1 mathematicians have been actively engaged in hands-on learning activities to build upon our number knowledge and place value. Grade 1 students have been investigating partitioning. Using concrete materials such as counters, tens frames, bundling sticks, and base ten blocks, F/1 students are developing an understanding of how numbers work.
Through physically counting, grouping and partitioning numbers, we're gaining confidence in recognising place value, for example understanding that 23 is made up of two tens and three ones.
Activities such as making and breaking numbers with blocks, using number lines expanders, and exploring different ways to split numbers help children see maths in a meaningful and interactive way. At home you might like to support your child’s learning and ask them how they can build or partition numbers, using everyday objects like buttons, pasta, or Lego pieces.
