Bunjil Award Winners

Well done to Seth and Charlie for receiving Specialist Bunjil Awards at last week’s whole school assembly. Both of you are doing an incredible job across all specialist areas!

Book Week - This Week!

Book Week is this week! One of the activities we will be holding is a free second hand ‘book grab’ where students can come along and choose a book that has been donated by the school library or families. This will be held on Friday . If your family has any books you would like to donate, please bring them into school. Thank you to the families who have already dropped off some wonderful books to be loved by someone else.

As you know this year's theme is ‘Reading is Magic’. We kicked off Monday lunchtime with our very own magic show, with the very talented magician Charlie, amazing his audience with an array of tricks! Thanks, Charlie, for your incredible tricks and for sharing your illusions with other students so they too could create ‘magic’.

A Huge Friday Ahead! - Friday 23 August

This Friday we have an absolutely jam packed day ahead! A note was sent home yesterday with your child with some details, however, please have a really good read below, as we have lots to remember. If unsure of anything or need clarification, please make sure to contact one of the Scotsburn staff.

FATHERS’ DAY AND SPECIAL FRIENDS AFTERNOON TEAThis Friday, at Scotsburn we will be holding a Fathers’ Day afternoon tea, celebrating all the special father figures in our lives. We would love all of our Scotsburn fathers and special friends to come along to the Scotsburn campus at 2:30pm, for a big afternoon tea and celebration.

SCOTSBURN ASSEMBLY: After our afternoon tea, we will hold a Scotsburn assembly at 3:00pm in the shed, with hopefully lots of fathers and family members in attendance.

PARENT CATCHUP: At 3:30pm in the old building, we will hold our second parent catch up session to catchup and discuss things happening around the campus, with a big focus on final concert preparations.

Parent Survey

A final reminder to Scotsburn parents to please participate in the Parent/Guardian Survey.  As a campus and a school, we really appreciate and very much value your feedback so that we can continue to make Scotsburn the best place that it can be!

Thank you in advance!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

The survey can be accessed here https://www.orima.com.au/parent

All parents / caregivers / guardians at your school use the same six-digit PIN to access the survey.

Our school's generic PIN for the SCOTSBURN CAMPUS is: 252303

*Please note, there is a separate PIN for the Buninyong Campus. Buninyong families have received a different Compass notification

Concert Update

With the Buninyong School Concert approaching fast, we have some more updates to provide. Please have a good read below, and as always, if you have any questions, please come in and see us.

Parent assistance with Props and Costumes:

A big thank you to everyone who popped in on Monday afternoon with Liz to help with the prop-making workshop. The giant brain is certainly taking shape. We have now planned to open the shed on Friday afternoon from 2pm for some more paper mache help as well as other prop assistance. Feel free to pop in and help out!

Costumes:

Thank you also to everyone who has brought in their t-shirts, read for us to decorate. As a reminder, we are asking for the following:

SC1

All SC1 students - a plain white t-shirt

Chelsea, Wil, Lawson, Ella, Scout, Jimmy, Nash - Plain black t-shirt (bring into school ASAP)

SC2

Albus, Isla, Will S, Matt, Lachy, Amity, Seth, Anastasia - a plain white t-shirt and a plain black t-shirt (bring into school ASAP), black school pants and black shoes.

Darragh, Flynn, Savannah, Rhylee, Lincoln - we will be sourcing a “uniform” for them. We are asking them to please provide long grey socks, and black school shoes, and school shorts or a skort. If you have a plain long sleeve button up white shirt, that would be great!  We can source shoes if you don’t have any - please let us know.

Zoe - we have a “uniform” for Zoe. We would love Zoe to have some red dress shoes - we can help with this if needed!

Please also refer to the Parent Handbook for specific information, which has previously been sent out via Compass.

Scotsburn Swimming

Whilst it is very hard at the moment to look past the concert, we do have our swimming program in Week 8, the week after the concert. As was the routine last year, 45 minute swimming lessons will take place for five days, Monday to Friday at Federation University. Drop off and pick up each day will be as normal at Scotsburn. Bathers, towel and goggles will be needed. Please keep an eye out on Compass and next week’s newsletter for more information and consent details.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

It’s been another busy week for the SC1 students, with lots of great learning going on as well as fine-tuning our concert performance. We were lucky enough to have Ms Hislop in the classroom for three days last week while we were away and she gave us amazing feedback about how friendly, kind and helpful our Scotsburn students are. Hearing this kind of praise makes us so proud of our fantastic learning community!

We have continued to learn more about insects through our reading and writing activities this week, with a focus on one of the creepiest of the creepy crawlies - the spider! You might want to ask your child about the diet, habitat, features or life cycle of a spider. They might even have a fun fact they could tell you!

The concert is imminent, and we wanted to extend our thanks to everyone who has been able to help our in the preparations for this massive event. We are so grateful for the help and support that our community has shown. Don’t forget that all students in SC1 need a white t-shirt, handed in to school as soon as possible so that we can arrange some special decorations for our performance. We are happy to help if you need it - just ask!

Thank you and have a wonderful week!

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Concert week is almost upon us! We are all so excited to finally put on a show for the Scotsburn community as part of the Buninyong concert at Federation University. SC2 students have worked so cooperatively with their younger friends at the campus to create a really special act.

Our teaching and learning focus in English this week has been to continue Analysing texts, paying particular attention to narrative features and how we can incorporate these into our writing. Our natural disaster narratives are really starting to take shape.

In Maths, this week we have finished off our work looking at Data and Graphing, with students confidently using a range of charts to represent data collected. We have also continued our work on multiplication fluency, even having a go at tricky 2 digit x 2 digit multiplication! They are really having a good crack at this!

Thanks again for all of the help that we have received so far with the concert. It takes a village to bring this together and we are so grateful for the help that we continue to receive.

Have an awesome week everyone, concert here we come!

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
