YEAR 3 SACRAMENT OF FIRST RECONCILIATION
Thursday 29th August
After a three weeks of preparation and learning about the Sacrament of Penance, also known as Reconciliation, the Year 3’s, last Thursday, were able to present themselves for their first confession to either Fr Desmond or Fr Joseph in a very personal and reverent manner.
This Sacrament of Healing allows the children to admit they have done something wrong (called a sin) against God and others. The act of confessing helps them to seek forgiveness and turn back to God with a renewed light and a fresh start.
This Sacrament is a stepping stone for the next two Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church, First Holy Communion (Year 4) and Confirmation (Year 6). It is also a Sacrament that can be performed over and over and is recommended by the Church to attend Confession at least once a year.
Well done to the Year 3 children for their in depth questioning, learning and participating respectfully in this Sacrament, the first of three, at St Mary's Primary school.
END OF TERM 3 WHOLE SCHOOL MASS
On Thursday, 19th September at 9:00am, the whole school will be attending mass to farewell Term 3 before the holidays begin. The new SRC’s for this semester, from Years 4-6, will be helping with the readings and the prayers on the day.
Everyone is most welcome to attend this mass.

CATHOLIC CARE VICTORIA
On Tuesday, August 27th, we had a Catholic Social Teaching member come to speak to the Year 6 students. It was an interesting one-hour lesson where we learned about the importance of showing and having dignity. The speaker talked about how her foundation helps people in need, such as those without food, education, fresh water, or even a home. She discussed the concept of the Common Good, which is about maintaining good relationships. In conclusion, we all enjoyed learning about Catholic social teachings and why it's important to show dignity no matter where you go.
