Wellbeing

As the new Head of Wellbeing and Inclusion at St. Mary's, I have hit the ground running! It’s been a wonderful experience getting to know all the students and staff by being actively involved in classrooms and lessons. I am thoroughly enjoying my time here, and I am incredibly grateful for the warm welcome everyone has extended to me. It’s truly a privilege to be part of this vibrant and supportive community.

Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to work closely with our Year 4 students on a series of lessons as part of our commitment to student wellbeing. These lessons have focused on the PEEC (Positive Education Enhanced Curriculum) program, and are designed to help students develop positive relationships, practice respect, and learn the importance of working together as a team. Each Monday, students have been engaged in activities and discussions that support their social and emotional development. By fostering respect and teamwork, we are creating a supportive environment where all students feel valued and connected.

I’m excited to share that we are looking to extend this program to other year levels moving forward, as we continue promoting positive relationships and respect across the entire school community.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, we are introducing some updated yard rules to encourage safe play during recess and lunch. We have noticed that some students are being a little too physical during ball games, such as tackling, pushing, or shoving. To keep everyone safe and enjoy their outside play time, we are asking that students play without any physical contact during ball games. We kindly ask that you spend some time discussing the importance of safe play with your child. Reinforcing these expectations at home will help them understand how to enjoy their time in the yard while keeping themselves and others safe.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping create a safer and more respectful environment for all our students. Together, we can make a positive difference in your child’s school experience.
