Dr Justin Coulson - Navigating Digital Dangers

What a powerful message Dr Justin Coulson shared with us on Thursday night.

He gave us strategies to help our childen stay safe both in public places and online. He shared some challenging statistics about predators online and the dangers of having a smart phone in childrens hands from a young age.

In thinking about Stranger Danger, he suggests that 95% of strangers are kind people, just like you and me. We need to let our children know to look out for Tricky people, those who may want to trick our children. Online there are far more tricky people who may want to groom and exploit children. The longer we can stop our children from going on social media, the safer and the better prepared they will be.

Anxiety and Resilience - Dr Maria Ruberto

On Wednesday, 28 August we are extremely grateful to have psychologist Dr Maria Ruberto present a high quality session to our parent community, in the St James Community Centre at 7pm. At this session Maria will be sharing information about emotional responses and ways parents can manage their own and their child’s response in situations that help develop your child’s resilience. Maria will explore reasons why resilience is critical for their development in the near and long term future. 

It is recommended that families bring a notepad and pen along to record and draw some information from the evening. Unfortunately the slidedeck will not be shared, but parents are welcome to take photos of the slides.
