Sunday's Gospel - 21st Sunday in Ordinary time

Gospel Reading -  John 6:60-69

"No one shall come to me unless my Father calls you"

The gift of Jesus' life is the life that underpins our human life. Jesus became one of us so that we might become like him. His words lead us into a quality of life which gives meaning, hope and love in all we do. Nobody else can give what Jesus gives - a full meaning of life, seen in the example of his life. Time with him in prayer, is always time well spent.

Social Justice Pyjama Day - Friday, 30 August

This Friday will be raising awareness about Homelessness in Australia. It is a growing problem with many factors leading to why people are homeless.

Overview of Homelessness:

  • 122,494 people were estimated to be experiencing homelessness at the time of the 2021 Census, an increase of 6,067 people (5.2%) since 2016.
  • The rate of homelessness decreased to 48 people per 10,000, from 50 in 2016.

Of those experiencing homelessness:

  • 68,516 (55.9%) are male
  • 53,974 (44.1%) are female
  • In Victoria, for every person sleeping on the street, there are another 21 people experiencing homelessness

We give thanks to our Social Justice leaders Valerie, Mason, Frances and Bella, who have helped us to prepare and promote our school event. Please remember to bring a gold coin donation to school this Friday, August 30 and all money will be given to support the homeless people in our community.

Charism - St. John the Evangelist

Our staff and students have been researching and discussing the history and importance of St. John the Evangelist who our school is named after.  Building the knowledge and understanding of this apostle has given meaning to our story as a school community for our teachers and our students as well.  We have looked at the timeline of his life, symbolism within his scriptures and style of his Gospel writing. Developing the charism of St. John is so important for us as a community and has helped us draw closer to Jesus. Since our celebration of Courageous Catholic Day we have been inspired by the uniqueness of the Gospel of John.

Here are some details of what we have found out so far:
