Yaama,
Some of the First Nations student's have taken home another Cultural Learning Plan as I have not yet received all of them. Please have these filled out and returned to school by the end of the term.
Two weeks ago, Miss Taggart, Kaylee Bray, Matilda Craig and Harrison Roberts, along with many other students from around the diocese, attended the Wii Gaay Camp at Stuarts Point.
A week of intense eight ways of learning through Digital Story Telling, Literacy and Numeracy workshops that were based around this year's NAIDOC Week theme "Keep the Fire Burning - Blak, Loud & Proud". Wii Gaay students learnt how to connect to past cultural knowledge practices and link them to today's learning environment in a truly unique and engaging workshop.
This year, we celebrated the theme ‘Be A Proud Voice for Country’.

St Joseph's school was lucky to have Jason Allen, President of the Council of Catholic Schools Parents, gift our school a book by Anita Heiss. Anita is a proud Aboriginal poet, author and cultural activist who is passionate about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Literacy education. This book will be added to Miss Taggart's cultural book collection for the students to read.
Last week, Miss Taggart, Mrs Power and the Stage 3 First Nations students headed over to Gunnedah to have their final practice before the conference next term. It has been a great opportunity for the students to be a part of and they have represented our school with such pride. A big congratulations to them and we look forward to seeing the performance on the night.
On Friday, the captains from McCarthy along with their Aboriginal Education Assistant, Lisa Smith handed over the Message Stick to our school. Yesterday, Miss Taggart took the message stick to be part of the parish mass before it was handed back to the school this morning for a prayer service welcoming the Message Stick to our school.
St Joseph's will host the message stick for a week. Each Stage will have the message stick for the day and Miss Taggart will present to the children the significance of the stick and why we have it.
Thank you to those that came along to participate in this special Mass.
