La fête de la musique
Congratulations and thank you to all of our performers. The show was short but very sweet. Mr Sturgess opened with a (virtuoso) performance of Norwegian Wood by The Beatles, Mr Turner displayed another of his many talents by singing Igual que un Ángel in great Spanish, Maddie and Cobie sang La Seine (from the animation ‘Un monstre à Paris’), and a headline performance by four of our YR12 French students (Sinead, Anna, Freya and Sara) singing ‘Magic in the Air’ to close the show on a high! A special thank you to the members of the French club for organising the concert, to Leanne for her technical support and especially to our French club captain Zaynab who spent so much time behind the scenes planning, organising, emailing and meeting with the performers and music captains. A great show and a great way to spend a lovely, sunny lunchtime!
Mr Hilton
On Wednesday 7th of August, the MGC French Club, in alliance with the Music Captains, ran La Fête de La Musique, a national French music festival, for the second year in a row. The festival is celebrated not only in France, but all around the globe in 120 countries, and its purpose is to enjoy music and appreciate it as an art form. Every year, it falls on the 21st of June, which is the summer solstice (in France), and a part of the celebration.
While this year the event at MGC took place a little while after that date, the spirit of the festival was certainly not lost on the large crowd who gathered around the library deck to cheer for the talented performers. We also happened to be very lucky with the weather, as the sun shone brightly on the performances, which were vastly varied, but all equally as enjoyable as each other.
A big thank you to all the performers, both teachers and students, Maddie, Cobie, Mr Sturgess, Mr Turner, and the Year 12s for sharing your wonderful talent with us. And an even bigger thank you to Leanne, the Music Captains and the French Club for all the work done behind the scenes to make this event come to life.
See you at next year’s Fête, MGC!
Zaynab
