Principal's Report

As we progress through Term 3, I am filled with enthusiasm for the journey ahead and the opportunities it brings. Our college continues to thrive, guided by our shared values of excellence, teamwork, and diversity.

On Wednesday, 17 July, the Premier’s VCE Awards ceremony was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event recognised the top performing students for outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education in 2023. These highly prestigious awards are received by the top students across the state in each subject area This year three Melbourne Girls’ College students received awards. Congratulations to Lucinda op't Hoog for Literature, Mia Harrison and Alina Ivanova for Media.

This year’s school production the Sound of Music was another resounding success. The event was a testament to the talent, hard work, and creativity of our students, who brought the performance to life with passion and dedication. Our college community really did get behind the production.  This achievement would not have been possible without the support and leadership of our performing arts team. Their commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for our students to explore their artistic potential has been instrumental in providing this incredible opportunity.

I am pleased to announce that three outstanding members of our staff at MGC have been recognised for their exceptional dedication and service. They have been nominated and awarded Rotary Excellence Awards. This honour reflects their unwavering commitment to our students, staff and the broader MGC community.  They are:

  • Teaching Excellence Award – Leigh Hanley
  • Outstanding STEAM Award – Sandor Kazi
  • Outstanding Education Support Staff Award – Louise Excel

We have a special evening and Rotary presentation evening coming up where they will be acknowledged and recognised.

We are this year again conducting the annual Parent Opinion Survey which is administered by the Department of Education.  The survey is designed to assist us in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of our school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is voluntary, but always encourage and appreciate your participation and feedback. We look closely at the results every year to assist us in identifying areas of celebration and goals for ongoing improvement.  The survey is conducted online, takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and is available on most devices.  The survey is also available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

The 2024 Victorian State Schools Spectacular brings together government school communities from across Victoria to produce a 3-hour live show including music, dance, circus arts, puppetry, and skating. This year’s show will be performed to an audience of about 12,000 people at John Cain Arena on Saturday 14 September, over 2 shows at 1 pm and 6:30 pm. Talented Victorian students will feature on stage, while many other students will work behind the scenes, gaining unique, on-the-job, professional experience.  We have a number of students who are performing in this years spectacular.   For a fun, family entertainment experience, and to cheer on students from the audience, be quick to secure tickets through Ticketek.
