Early Years - ELC - Year 2

Over the past week we have had to relocate our ELC to the Kinder room and from Wednesday we moved our Kinders down to the Prep - Year 2 space.  Thank you to the parents in these classes for your support as we navigated these changes.  Although tricky at some times we have reminded ourselves that the end result will be so worthwhile.

Safety Conversation

Constable Anthony Bailey will be coming to the College to speak to all students from Kinder - Year 6 on Monday 9 September about the importance of being aware of strangers and what students can do to ensure that they keep themselves safe.  These sessions will be 30 minutes long. If you have any concerns please contact your daughter's classroom teacher.  Please see the following times if you would like to attend the session in the Cahill Centre.

  1. Kinder, Prep and Year 1 : 9.30am - 10.00am
  2. Years 2, 3 and 4 : 10.00am - 10.30am
  3. Years 5 and 6 : 10.30am - 11.00am (adjusted recess 11.:00 - 11.20am)

Book Week

The theme for this year’s Book Week was ‘Reading is Magic’ and my goodness me there was certainly a sea of magic that appeared at class room doors and on our now famous’ Book Week Catwalk’.

Reading is often described as magical because it has the power to transport us to different worlds, expand our minds, and make us think.  The magic of reading can be seen through how we activate our imagination, how we escape from reality by taking us away from our everyday life and transporting us to a land of fantasy, or a different time in history.

Reading is magical because it allows us to laugh, cry, feel fear, or joy all within the span of a few pages. The connection you build with characters and their journeys can be deeply personal and moving.

Reading is magical because it allows our minds to grow introducing new ideas and reading is magical because it is timeless

We as a teaching community truly value reading and it is part of our day to day teaching but we can’t do this ourselves and we value the support of our parent community. Without parents/guardians encouraging reading each afternoon or night our job becomes harder and harder.

On the topic of parents and guardians we know as teachers that putting together a Book Week costume can be a venture but we also recognise that it would not be possible without our parents/guardians. Thank you for your energy and enthusiasm, your ability to dream and create but most importantly your support and love.
