Principal Update
Thursday 12th September
Production - Twisting through Time - is tonight!
It is all happening today. Staff and students are undertaking final dress rehearsals in preparation for this evening. Today we have been at Emerald SC and familiarising ourselves with the stage areas. There are plenty of nerves and excitement as we get ready to perform. It is so nice seeing everyone is their costumes too.
Our staff, led by Anne Matheson and Rebecca Burley, are very proud of our students and it is wonderful to see all the combined efforts coming together. Our students and staff certainly are exhibiting ‘do your best’ and ‘help others succeed’. There are so many benefits of a production and I’d like to acknowledge how well Anne and Bec are able to cater to the strengths of our students that enables them to all contribute in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
Many people do many hours to bring an event like this to the stage. A huge thank you to all our staff who created props and backgrounds, costumes, programs, music, scripts, rehearsals, organised make up and microphones/sound, supervised, encouraged, provided choreography with each group or worked with the leads. It is a big effort and so rewarding.
A few special acknowledgements:
To Laura Lane who has been capturing the students in action today. We look forward to being able to share the photos.
To Kate Matheson who has done a mountain of work preparing the digital backgrounds, working on the sound and the program as well as recording the night for us. Thank you so much.
Please check the compass news feed sent on Tuesday for this evenings arrangements.
AFL Roadshow is tomorrow – students to come dressed in their favourite team colours.
This is always a fun day and the students will look forward to participating in the activities. We will enjoy a hot dog and a drink to compliment the day (GF & Vegetarian options available). Please ensure this has been actioned on Compass so everyone is involved.
R U OK? Day
R U OK? day is a great reminder to always check in with the people around you. Quite often people around us look ok as they are masking their true feelings but for even just one person to ask “R U OK?” shows them that other people are thinking of them and care about them. By starting that conversation, we can not only ensure that people know that we care, we also can encourage conversations around what is affecting them and then we can encourage them to get the support that they need.
From the R U OK website: R U OK? inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.
You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good colleague/friend/relative and a great listener. Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:
- - Ask R U OK?
- - Listen
- - Encourage action
- - Check in
Working Bee rescheduled
This is now planned for the Friday before school starts for Term 4 (4th October). Hopefully the weather is kind and families are welcome if available to come along and assist. We will look to start from 9am
Our Facilities subcommittee are also planning on installing our new goal posts on the oval. These will be a great addition for our students and will be able to play either AFL, soccer or rugby
Parent Opinion Survey
A reminder to check your Compass news feed for access to the DET Parent Opinion survey. This closes by the end of term now as the deadline has been extended.
As announced in the 2024/25 Victorian Budget, the School Saving Bonus provides a one-off $400 support for students in Victoria in Term 4, 2024, for use on 2025 school costs. Please access Compass news feeds for information regarding this. It is vital that all contact information is up to date.
