YEAR 10 FOOD STUDIES - MAIN MEAL TASK
The Year 10 Food Studies cohort were set an independent task which was to create a meal plan based on a design brief which stipulated the consideration and constraints in the meal planning phases. The idea behind the task was to allow the students freedom to create a nutritious, visually appealing and flavoursome meal whilst managing budget and time constraints.
An array of cuisines were utilized in the process with students delving into trusted, family favorites as well as many students experimenting with styles and techniques far out of their comfort zones.
The issue of how to spend their allotted budget provided an opportunity to develop financial intelligence as well as personal life skills. Students needed to reflect on ingredients and quantities and make decisions of what was of value to them in relation to needs and wants.
Over the course of the four week process it was fantastic to see students work consistently and with focus to produce high quality dishes with autonomy. The students were beaming with a sense of pride and feeling of accomplishment after the extended period of planning and pressure to complete their meal within the 90-minute time period.
A great culmination to the semester’s work, well done to all students that have participated in Year 10 Food Studies this year.
