2024 ULTIMATE VICTORIA SCHOOL JUNIOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The sun was setting upon the 2024 Ultimate Disk season, but the McKinnon Ultimate Disk squad had one more mission for the year - the Junior State Championships. Still riding the momentum from successes at the Kingston Regionals, spurred on by the encouraging words and inspiring deeds of the Senior State Championship teams, and as always, drawing strength from the sheer depth of the squad, two Junior teams set forth on Tuesday 15 October, living embodiments of the squad’s motto, Vires in Numeris

One McKinnon team, comprised entirely of Year 7 students in a division open to students up to and including Year 9, played extremely well despite facing much larger and more experienced players. Although the matches were challenging, it was valuable for these young players to gain experience at the State Championship level. These students have the opportunity to cultivate their skills over many more years - an exciting prospect for the future of the squad.

Our other team, consisting mostly of the Year 9 students that had participated in the Kingston Regionals, put on some fantastic performances but unfortunately missed out on a podium position. Future plans for the squad include more training sessions at the East Campus to better facilitate the success of the squad at future Junior level tournaments and to ensure a cohesive, longitudinal culture.

Although the matches were tough, it was another highly successful day for the squad, and a great way to cap off what has been the strongest season of Ultimate Disk in McKinnon Secondary College’s rich history. The students represented themselves and McKinnon with their exemplary skill and sporting behaviour. The squad now shifts its gaze towards the 2025 season, and glory.

The ultimate frisbee tournament was amazing! One of the highlights was when Jake threw a dime up in the air, Ewan MacLennan full court, dived, and was flying through the air. We were waiting and waiting for him to catch it - it looked like he couldn’t reach, until...he reached higher!

Our team had a great time at the state ultimate frisbee tournament. We faced tough competition and lost a few games but gave our best effort in every match. Despite the challenges, we had fun and it was great to be able to play with my mates. It was a memorable experience and most of us are looking forward to playing next year.
