7-10 Sport

Students have continued to represent their countries in our mini Olympics for Sport. In week 2 students played modified versions of Soccer with the gold medal going to Japan, silver to Australia and bronze to Jamaica.

Our Week 3 sport was Rugby 7s and modified games of Touch Football/League Tag were played. The gold medal went to Germany, silver to Jamaica and bronze to France.

All students have been displaying Olympic spirit and the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship and should be proud of how they have represented their country over the last few weeks.

Book Fair Success!

Last week’s Book Fair was an incredible success, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how everything turned out! The energy and excitement throughout the school were palpable as students eagerly explored the wide selection of books. From adventure stories to fascinating non-fiction, there was something for everyone.

A highlight of the week was undoubtedly the Book Character Parade, where students dressed up as their favorite book characters. It was heartwarming to see our students' creativity shine as they proudly showed off their costumes to their grandparents and other family members. The parade added an extra layer of fun and excitement to the week, making it a memorable experience for all involved.

Students also took great pride in showcasing their work in the library, which had been transformed into a vibrant celebration of reading. It was wonderful to see them so engaged, eagerly sharing their projects and book selections with parents, teachers, and visitors. The library was buzzing with conversations about favorite stories, characters, and new discoveries.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event such a success. The support from our school community—students, parents, teachers, and staff—was overwhelming, and it truly made the Book Fair a special event for all. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Book Fair and can’t wait to see what new adventures in reading await!

Year 7 & 8 Visual Arts

Last semester Years 7 and 8 Visual Arts were focusing on pattern and texture and how to create these in their own artworks.

They studied Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama and her artworks, in particular her repetitive use of dots to achieve pattern and texture.

The students then drew their artworks using pattern and texture as the main elements of the design, centred around an eye, which Kusama uses frequently in her artworks.

The drawings were then coloured with acrylic paint markers and outlined in black marker.

Congratulations to these year groups for producing some extremely pleasing artworks!

Small Schools Rugby League Success

Our boys had an early start, traveling to Wagga in the fog to compete in the Small Schools Rugby League competition.

The Under 14s kicked off with a close match against McAuley, narrowly losing 20-10, with tries from Pheonix and Peter. However, they bounced back in their second game, securing a fantastic 32-12 victory over Gundagai, with tries from Pheonix (2), Peter, Blake, Zac, and Seb. The team finished in 3rd place after an impressive win against Hay WMHS, wrapping up the day on a high note.

The Under 16s faced a tough start, losing 0-22 to Sacred Heart and suffering a narrow 16-12 defeat against Tumbarumba. Despite the results, they showed great spirit and skill on the field, with Taylen and Aleks leading the charge.

Overall, it was a fantastic day of rugby league, with the boys playing with the passion and sportsmanship that truly embodies the spirit of the game.

9-10 Visual Arts Postmodern Pop Soup Can Artworks

Last term 9/10 Visual Arts studied the Pop Art Movement and the artworks of Pop artist Andy Warhol, particularly his Campbell's soup can artworks.

The postmodern frame was focused on in art historical and critical lessons, especially its elements of appropriation and parody.

Students were to create their own soup can artwork, inventing a new, contemporary flavour for the soup, and a new design for the can.

The class are to be commended on their original and imaginative flavours and artworks. Well Done!

Southern Tablelands STEM & Engineering Challenge Victory

Our Year 9 and 10 students recently took part in the Southern Tablelands STEM & Engineering Challenge in Goulburn, competing against schools including Goulburn High, Mulwaree High, Crookwell High, Yass High, and Trinity Catholic College. In a thrilling finish, our students pulled off an incredible upset victory, beating Trinity Catholic College by a narrow 4-point margin!

The event was an exciting day-long competition designed to give students a hands-on experience in science and engineering. Each school team was divided into smaller groups, with each group tackling either one full-day or two half-day activities. The challenges tested their skills in design, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Some of the activities included:

  • Helter Skelter Shelter: Students designed and refined towers made of paper and straws to withstand simulated earthquakes.
  • Job Juggle: Teams worked on scheduling problems, optimizing time and resources in real-life scenarios.
  • Flight: Participants built and launched model gliders, aiming for distance, precision, and accuracy.
  • ElectraCITY: Students provided low-cost electricity to a city, balancing efficiency and infrastructure needs.
  • Fish Traps: Teams designed traps to collect specific amounts and sizes of "fish" using 3D-printed rocks.
  • Confounding Communications: Students created codes to send secret messages using pulses of colored light.
  • Wind Turbine: Teams constructed fan blades to efficiently catch wind and generate power.
  • Bridge: Participants designed model bridges capable of bearing heavy loads across a gap.

Our students demonstrated remarkable creativity, teamwork, and perseverance throughout the day. Their hard work paid off, leading to an unforgettable victory that will be remembered for years to come.
