The IB Middle Years Programme
Dear Parents,
As we review the 2024 NAPLAN results, it is essential to reflect on the purpose and impact of these assessments. Every year, discussions arise about the relevance and effectiveness of NAPLAN. Is the pressure of these standardised tests beneficial for our students? Are they truly measuring what matters in education?
While NAPLAN has certain limitations, it provides valuable insights. For parents, NAPLAN offers an independent evaluation of your child's learning, complementing the information you receive from the school. It helps us identify strengths and areas for improvement in our teaching practices, and for our educational team, NAPLAN results are a tool to refine our approaches and enhance student learning outcomes.
At Oakleigh Grammar, we use NAPLAN results to inform our teaching strategies, not to label or categorise students. Our goal is to support each student's growth and development, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need for their future.
It is important that students approach NAPLAN without undue stress. These assessments are not a reflection of their worth but a measure of our educational practices. Parents, you have the discretion to decide how much of this information to share with your children, understanding its impact on them.
Assessment at Oakleigh Grammar is about improvement and growth. Regular evaluations help us understand how students are progressing and where adjustments are needed. It is akin to checking a map on a journey; it helps us ensure we are on the right path and making necessary changes along the way.
While no assessment system is perfect, NAPLAN provides a valuable perspective. It highlights areas where our teaching is effective and where we can improve. By working together, we can make informed decisions to enhance our students' learning experiences.
In conclusion, our aim is to ensure that each student at Oakleigh Grammar reaches their full potential. NAPLAN is just one step in this continuous journey of education and development. We remain committed to supporting your children in achieving their dreams and aspirations.
Parents are welcome to contact their child's English teachers, Mathematics teachers, or myself to discuss the report.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
Kind regards,
