Student Representative Council (SRC)
Organising a fundraiser for a charity is essential as it helps raise much-needed funds for vital causes, while also fostering community spirit and awareness. By contributing time and resources, individuals can make a significant impact, support those in need, and promote positive change in society through collective efforts and generosity.
On Friday 2 August, Oakleigh Grammar went all the way blue! The SRC organised the annual “Jeans for Genes Day” to raise money for genetic research in children. Students, teachers and staff were allowed to come to school wearing their favourite blue jeans. “Jeans for Genes Day” is a national day when people wear their denim to raise much-needed funds for research into birth defects and diseases such as cancer, epilepsy, and a range of genetic disorders. Unfortunately, 1 in 20 kids faces a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer, and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That is 12 kids born every minute worldwide. The contribution of the school community was huge, and we raised $1,877!
On Friday 23 August, SRC organised a lemonade stall including some yummy cakes for Daffodil Day. Every day, 452 Australians are diagnosed with cancer. Daffodil Day supports cancer research to find the breakthroughs needed to save lives. All money raised will be given to Cancer Council.
Congratulation to all SRC members and Middle School Leaders for putting together all these amazing events! It is important to remember, supporting charities can have a positive impact on communities, both locally and globally.
