EMR FINALS

Year 7 Girls Soccer

What a wild and windy tournament! Congratulations to our Year 7 superstars for again being undefeated and heading to the State competition on September 11th!

In Pool 2 we scored early against Heathmont Secondary and won comfortably 3-0. Our confidence built with a win against Upper Yarra Secondary 2-0, however with Balywn High also being undefeated we needed a win or draw to head through to the grand final on goal tally. The girls fought hard in defence and managed to secure the draw! They should be commended on their strength and determination as it was a difficult game.

We headed into the grand final against Brentwood Secondary at a disadvantage having only 10 minutes rest before the game started whereas they’d had an hour. However, the girls dug deep and secured the win at 2-0! Too many stars to mention individual names and all assisted with goals and defence equally. Again, I was proud of your sportsmanship, behaviour and attitude on and off the pitch.

Big shout out to our Year 10 coaches, Elodie and Harry (who also doubled as linesman and cheerleader) and a thank you to Nasia (Year 11) for assisting with training last week and Ms Jung for coming with us on the day and keeping our spirits up. Thank you to the parents who also came to support the girls and bring cake to help us celebrate Emily A’s birthday! I can’t wait to see how you go next month! Mrs Mitchell.

STATE FINALS

Year 7 Girls Soccer

Congratulations to the girls for being the first Soccer team in the history of Vermont Secondary College to make State Finals!

Being assigned Pool B, we headed into our first game against Catholic College Wodonga. We had a great defence line and maintained a dominant possession of the ball, however, couldn’t manage to convert it into a goal ending the game 0-0.

Next up we faced Western Heights College, a specialised sports school with a coach that previously goal kept for the Croatian national team, so we knew it was going to be tough. We lost 1-5, which unfortunately doesn’t reflect the amount of control we had of the ball. Well done to Alice for scoring our goal!

We managed to squeeze in our last game against Lavalla Catholic College before the lightening called off the competition preventing any finals. We drew 1-1 and walked away feeling proud of our achievements with ideas and excitement for next year's competition.  Well done to Kaitlyn for scoring our goal!

Again, a huge thank you to our student coaches Elodie and Harry and captain Alice for their leadership and encouragement. Thank you also to all the parents and extended family members that also came to support the girls. See you next year! Mrs Mitchell.
