Student Voice : Heights Campus
Wow, we have almost come to the end of Term 4! Time flies when you’re having fun and it has definitely gone by very fast. This month was the last Children’s Advisory group meeting. Throughout the year, the Children's Advisory group gave us a chance to be a voice and make a change in the City of Greater Dandenong. We got to contribute our ideas and have also learnt so much. The Children’s Advisory group was a great experience.
Twenty Grade 6 students from each campus were lucky enough to participate in a special transition program at the Springvale Town Hall. The program included fun workshops about making friends and collaborative games to develop confidence when going to high school. They got to learn more about their high school and shared their feelings about starting a new school!
Some selected MLC students got the chance to participate in the Treehouse Resilience Program. They made trees and added their ideas and thoughts to their tree to help them with strategies they could use when experiencing tough times.
This week, The JLC students from the Heights Campus walked to Springvale Campus to watch a puppet show about Cinderella. The free puppet show was part of the ‘Big Summer Read’ launch, an event that is hosted at Greater Dandenong Libraries over the next two months. The JLC students enjoyed their time and said they would love another puppet show in the future.
Our rabbits, Snowy and Oreo, have been settling really well into Heights Campus. Snowy and Oreo are loving being cared and looked after by all our students. They have also helped students who are feeling in the yellow, blue or red zone to regulate and calm down. This week they have been visiting the F-2 building and are probably looking forward to a rest in the 3-6 building next week.
As it is almost the end of Term 4, there are many exciting events to look forward to! We have End of Year celebration events at each learning centre, End of year Assembly Awards at the Springvale Town Hall, Grade 6 Graduation and Uncle Josh coming in to do a Yidaki performance and some artwork related to the Indigenous text, Bundjil.
Remember to wear hats and sunscreen these days and keep on smiling!
